Lovely little cafe. We decided to visit, because we looked up places selling gluten free food, on the Wirral.
It's a cute, friendly, kitch, little place. The walls are covered in old, black & white photos of Spital, and other vintage pictures. The tables are set with cutesy cruet sets, ours had two squirrels. I also saw: the Queen & a corgi; a ginger tabby cat & Border Colie; two birds, and another cat & dog. Tea was served in Harlequin Porcelain. In the cafe window, there are chairs, and a settee, with cushions & a throw, with a coffee table for a casual coffee & cake.
The food was very tasty looking, with one daily special, written on a chalkboard, and two more on a menu. Gluten free bread is available, so any sandwich can be gluten free. They also cook gf pancakes and fritters. Because they also have a selection of gf cakes, you can order afternoon tea, either standard, or gf. (I think that you need to give them a couple of hours notice if you want gf afternoon tea.)
The drinks selection covers a variety of coffees, both dairy & alternatives, teas, (black, green, fruit & herbal,) Smoothies & soft drinks.
My son ordered the Special, GF, Triple Breakfast Brunch. This was a mighty offering, two triple sandwiches, on a wooden skewer, salad, homemade coleslaw, crisps, and a portion of skin-on fries. He said that it was really delicious. As was my daughter's chicken club, and my GF, Toasted, Goat's cheese, bacon & cranberry sandwich, (same sides). I also ordered the fries, which I thoroughly enjoyed. Everything that we ordered was delicious. I would be happy to work my way through their menu! We were too full for dessert, so we ordered cakes to take out. (Also delicious!) The staff, in 'Our Coffee Shop' are friendly and helpful. The cafe is all on one level, with disabled access, dog friendly, and has a toilet. There is a small amount of parking for the shopping precinct. All in all, a very...
Read moreThis is a new discovery. LOVE the place. Great value for money, dog friendly 🧡, delicious food, gorgeous fresh bakes and I mean gorgeous. Lovely, friendly and attentive front of house lady. The decor is cute and quirky. I'm looking forward to my next visit already. One issue though, I can't say no to beautiful homemade bakes 😂
2023 update. I've had the pleasure of visiting OCS many times since my first visit. Its always a lovely visit. Their bakes are delightfully delicious. Muffs sausages, say no more! Beautiful fresh local ingredients cooked to your liking if you have any specific requirements. If you like crispy bacon, ask for it that way etc etc. I love the decor and always have. The owner and her team are truly fabulous. I think its time I try their legendary Manchester tart! I'm late to the party 😂 And they baked a stunning looking plum/vanilla cake yesterday so the hubz will be sent in tomorrow haha. I've had their chocolate cake in different forms the most, the best chocolate cake by a mile. Keep up the fantastic work guys! I can't call myself a regular because I don't come weekly or monthly but I've been many times and sometimes popped by for a cake takeaway. I don't eat like I used to following some very life changing surgery in October but I'll be back soon to sit in for a beautiful decaff tea and a muffs sausage haha 😆. It's a great thing for people like me, I can now pick a few things separately on the extras part of the menu. Dog friendly too, always a win. Unless you're the lady that was there 2022 Easter time and she screamed the place down because this gorgeous little bundle dared sniff her as her owner waited for his take out coffee. The poor barrister/server nearly poured hot water on herself 🙈. My hubz will see you tomorrow all...
Read moreI wanted to love this place as seen great reviews, but the breakfast was average at best as was the coffee, looks like it might be a better place for lunch or afternoon tea than cooked breakfast, also it misses the mark for a quaint tea room it's more like sitting in a charity shop whilst eating, however staff are lovely so may give it another go for lunch one time and alter my review based on that
Edit to reply to owners reply : we both just found the breakfast not cooked right, the fried eggs were hard crispy underneath and snotty on top, bacon was overcooked, the toast was buttered while cold, it was the little things, I really wanted to like it and i have said i will come back to try lunch or afternoon teas as so many great reviews on these, just that me and hubby usually eat out for breakfast so always looking for a good place in...
