Promised table service never arrived. We left after 35 minutes due to no service whatsoever despite locals around us with no service issues. Atmosphere was 'cliquey' Not the friendly pub it used to be, no cask ales anymore either. Sadly Wetherspoons turned out to be the best option, where we got served politely within 5 minutes of arrival (how sad) Avoid the Stork if possible, it's glory days are well over, and the new staff aren't welcoming to new customers. We went to 'Molly's' after no service for 35 minutes and the staff there where waiting on us hand and foot literally as soon as we arrived. Brewery ran pub now, but its just TERRIBLE! I can't leave a 'no star' review, so the 1 star I gave it...
Read morePerhaps one of the oldest pubs in the town as it was built in 1918. The fixtures & fittings are in keeping with the period so its a pleasant drinking environment & the staff are friendly. Beer selection is limited but if you like old period pubs then you'll love The Stalk. They also have a rather large back yard now converted into a smoking area & beer garden with a large screen tv for those of you who enjoy football. The pubs location next to tge job centre in a less attractive part of town may detur the more snobby pub officianado's but trust me on this. Its a real treat for a proper fan of old...

We had beef & chicken, roasties, mash, cauliflower, broccoli, carrot & swede, sprouts, Yorkshire pud & stuffing large portion too with a pot of gravy and we had apple pie & custard and cheesecake & cream. delivered on time with a smile by the lovely Margaret. Couldn't fault the food or service and very reasonable price, definitely recommend...
