I've always loved this place. It's run by volunteers (of course!), on behalf of Wirral Borough Council. I took a pre-arranged party from Wirral Classic Car Club. For a small charge, we were given tea, coffee, cake, biscuits, a tram ride and a guided tour of the museum. It was a day when the public are generally not admitted, but the volunteers go in to work on the vehicles. There are many old trams, all in working order, dating back to 1901. Corporation buses, classic cars, motor bikes, models and even a huge model railway scene, complete the picture. Please take the family for a trip down Memory Lane. You won't be disappointed. Just make sure it's open before you go. One snag. Our beloved Council has saturated the local streets with parking meters, so parking is an issue. That is, unless you are lucky enough to have a Blue Badge, when you can park free of charge, while the rest of us get fleeced. Rant over. By all means get the train. It's a 2 minute walk from Hamilton...
Read moreMe and my girlfriend visited here after a while of wanting to come. On arrival the entrance wasn't well sign posted (we arrived on foot) once in the museum we were met with brilliant exhibits and stuff that we did not expect to see. We thought that there would have been more room between the vehicles so you could have a property look round them. (I know that floor space is at a premium and the museum only has a certain amount of space!) However we were more than happy to spend best part of an hour walking round and looking at stuff that they had available. We got talking to a couple of gents who worked at the museum as caretakers if you like restoring the exhibits, they were really friendly and knowledgeable. We then went on a tram ride which was good value for money and was something different and unique. All round a...
Read moreGreat little transport museum, with real operating trams that run for about half a mile. No charge to enter, just make a donation. Opening hours vary so check the website. No onsite parking but there are parking meters immediately outside the museum that take a bank card. I was there an hour before I realised that trams were running that day as they start 100m across the road and not at the museum. They really need a sign outside that says 'Trams running today' so that visitors know this because with donation only entrance there is no 'meet and greet' by their volunteers to pass this important info onto visitors. The interior of the museum was immaculate with a great sample of local Transport history and good interpretation boards. There is also...
