First thing to tell everyone is that don't go with the expectation that you're going to have the exact Kerala food. It has its own limitations. But I can tell you that this is the best you'll get in this area. I went there for the traditional Kerala lunch but it was a Saturday. You'll get the "Oonu" only on weekdays. So we limited our orders to "Kappayum Meenum" , "Ammachi pidiyum kozhiyum" and Kerala porotta. So I can tell you about these food items. Kappa(tapioca) was little bit dry but it goes with the fish curry. About the fish curry, they used kingfish but I couldn't feel the fresh taste and also the curry was little bit sweet. Pidiyum kozhiyum was overall okay but the canned coconut milk taste was dominating. Kerala porotta is always known for its unique taste and softness which I couldn't get there. And I found their menu little bit expensive ( Ā£5 for pazhamporišŸ™„). As I told, it has its own limitations but overall I would recommend this place for those who wants to try Kerala food.

Review done: My family and I am a huge fan of Kerala dishes. I’ve been to several Kerala restaurants in London but they don’t come anywhere near the quality and the taste served in Kayak restaurant. As starters we had the Mixed seafood platter and Kayal Konju Chilly. It’s certainly fair to say the starters made us hungrier and more excited to get the mains. As mains, we had the full thilapi, porotta, chicken curry and ghee rice. They were delicious as expected. After polishing off the plates, we moved to the deserts - pineapple Kesari and semiya payasam. Knowing that we are in Kayal restaurant, one of our friends asked us to take away some dishes for them as they have been here a few times. The staff were very friendly, polite and very knowledgeable about the dishes on the menu. The restaurant is big and airy. We will be back!

Not sure we had a pleasant experience at Kayal Byfleet this week after making an hour’s drive each way to get from where we live! We previously visited Leamington Spa restaurant which didn’t disappoint us, hence dined without looking at any reviews. To start with, it took 15-20mins and couple of chases to get someone to take our drinks order. Food also took its own sweet time to arrive on a week day where only 20% of the tables were occupied. Food - Kerala cuisine??? You have really re-defined ā€œkeralanā€ food :D absolutely poor taste and not at all authentic. Check out the picture how Kerala porotta looks like, what was served to me is called pappadam where I come from ;o Will I visit again? Absolutely not, nor recommend to anyone.

As an avid traveler who has had the privilege of dining in some of the most renowned restaurants around the world, I have encountered a plethora of waiters who have left lasting impressions on me. However, my recent experience with Waiter Naveen latheef stands out as truly exceptional. Naveen's service went above and beyond, leaving me in awe of his professionalism, attentiveness, and genuine care for the patrons he serves.

Having dined in Paris at the iconic Le Jules Verne, savored the culinary delights of Tokyo's Sukiyabashi Jiro, and indulged in the luxurious atmosphere of New York City's Per Se, I can confidently say that Naveen's hospitality rivals that of the finest establishments I have visited.

From the moment I walked into the restaurant, Naveen's warm smile and welcoming demeanor immediately put me at ease. Despite the restaurant's bustling atmosphere, Naveen managed to make every guest feel like the most important person in the room. His knowledge of the menu and attention to detail were astounding, as he effortlessly guided me through the culinary journey that awaited me.

One aspect that truly sets Naveen apart is his ability to anticipate the needs of the guests. It was as if he could read my mind, appearing at just the right moment to refill my water glass, discretely clear the table, or offer suggestions tailored to my preferences. His intuitive understanding of the dining experience elevated my evening to new heights, allowing me to fully immerse myself in the flavors and ambiance of the restaurant.

Naveen's passion for his craft was palpable. He spoke about each dish with an enthusiasm that was infectious, taking the time to explain the intricate details and origins of the ingredients. His deep knowledge of the culinary world, paired with his genuine love for food, enriched my dining experience and made each course even more memorable.

Having had the privilege of encountering many exceptional waiters throughout my travels, I can confidently say that I have never encountered someone quite like Naveen. His professionalism, attention to detail, and genuine care for his guests create an experience that is truly unforgettable. If you have the opportunity to dine at this restaurant, I implore you to request the pleasure of Naveen's service. His expertise and warm demeanor will undoubtedly enhance your culinary journey, leaving you with memories that will last a lifetime.

In a world where exceptional service is increasingly rare, Naveen's commitment to excellence shines brightly. He is a true gem among waiters, and his dedication to providing an unparalleled dining experience sets him apart from the rest. Bravo, Naveen, for redefining the meaning of exceptional service and for making my visit to your restaurant an experience I will...

Oh my goodness, I just have to tell you about our latest food adventure! We visited Kayal, and let me tell you, it was a dive straight into the heart of Kerala cuisine. The place itself has such a cozy and welcoming vibe. It’s like stepping into a little piece of Kerala right here in the city. And the staff? Super friendly and attentive!

Now, let’s talk about the food because that’s the real star of the show. We started with Kappa (Tapioca), and it was just the right mix of soft and flavorful. It kind of set the stage for what was to come.

The Beef Ularth, oh my! It was this beautiful blend of spices and tender beef – every bite was a flavor explosion. Then came the Masala Dosa, crispy on the outside with a perfectly spiced filling. Absolutely delicious!

We also tried Idiyappam, which was this delicate, stringy delight, perfect for balancing the spice in the other dishes. The Fish Mulakitath was another hit – tangy, spicy, and the fish was cooked just right.

But the Chicken Stew in Coconut Milk – that was something else! It was so creamy and comforting, like a warm hug in a bowl. We also had Kallapam and Fish Pollichath, each unique and bursting with flavor.

Now, the Thalassery Chicken Biryani was the showstopper. It was aromatic, the rice and chicken cooked to perfection, and just packed with flavors.

And for dessert, Unnakaya and Kulfi. The Unnakaya was this sweet, banana-filled treat – a perfect end to the meal. The Kulfi was the icing on the cake – creamy, cold, and just the right amount of sweet.

Honestly, Kayal is more than just a restaurant. It’s like a little journey to Kerala with every visit. The food, the ambiance, the people – everything comes together to create this wonderful experience. Can’t...

The ā€œKayal Sadhya Thaliā€ was quite a letdown. Serving ā€œbasmati riceā€ instead of ā€œmatta riceā€ completely misses the essence of an authentic Kerala Sadhya. In Kerala, "Sadhya" or even a simple "meals" always means matta rice, not basmati. If the restaurant prefers basmati, they might as well rebrand it as a North Indian thali because no true Malayali would associate basmati rice with a Sadhya.

The vegetarian curries that came with the thali were far from authentic. A proper Kerala Sadhya should have simple yet flavorful dishes like beetroot pachadi, thenga chamanthi (coconut chutney), parippu curry (made the traditional way with ghee and green chilies), and an authentic Kerala-style sambar. Instead, what was served felt more like generic North Indian-style curries, which completely missed the mark.

Now for the positives: Mango lassi – Absolutely delicious! Thick, rich, and flavorful. Kanthari prawns – Great flavors, but even after asking for extra spice, it could have been spicier. Pothu ularthiyathu – Needs improvement in texture and seasoning. Kappa biryani – Could be better. Thalassery biryani – Spot on! Easily one of the best dishes on the menu.

If the restaurant wants customers to explore dishes beyond biryani, focusing on authenticity is key. Many people visit with the hope of tasting flavors that remind them of home, and small details like the right rice and well-prepared Kerala curries can make all the difference.

Lastly, service was lacking—the staff seemed disinterested, which didn’t help the overall experience.

Would I recommend this place? If you’re going for biryani, yes. But if you’re craving an authentic Kerala meal, be prepared for some serious...
