⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A Truly Special Meal at Clava I had the pleasure of dining at Clava in West Byfleet yesterday with my daughter, and it was honestly one of the best meals we’ve had in a long time. From the moment we arrived, we were warmly welcomed by Giulio, who runs the front of house with such charm and professionalism. He made us feel completely at ease and looked after us throughout the evening with genuine care and attention. We started with two fantastic dishes—my daughter had the carpaccio, which was beautifully tender and full of flavour, and I had the kingfish ceviche, which was fresh, citrusy, and perfectly balanced. Both were light, elegant, and a great way to begin the meal. For our pasta course, I had the fettuccine with lobster—rich, buttery, and indulgent, with the lobster cooked just right. My daughter had the paccheri with broccoli, which was hearty and delicious, with a lovely bit of heat from the chilli and great texture from the crispy guanciale.

Then came the mains. I had the crispy aubergine parmigiana, which was absolutely delicious—crispy on the outside, soft and full of flavour inside, with layers of tomato, basil, and cheese that came together beautifully. My daughter had the Barracks Farm lamb, which was perfectly cooked and full of flavour, with a pistachio crust and sides that really elevated the dish.

Every dish was clearly made with care and creativity, and you could really taste the quality of the ingredients. Chef Valentino is clearly passionate about what he does, and it shows in every plate that comes out of the kitchen. So my son and I had found this place on line and were so excited to try it today for lunch. The menu looked incredible and as we are both foodies we were looking forward to the full Italian lunch experience. Well we couldn't have been more disappointed. We turned up to be told they don't do the A La Carte menu only the lunch menu. It doesn't say this on the website or we wouldn't have booked it. But we were there by this point and already had a bottle of sparkling water on the table so we ploughed on. Unfortunately the sparkling water was the only sparkling thing about lunch. My son ordered the calamari to start and it wasn't great. He then ordered the tagliolini for mains and it was at best bland. With four tiny prawns on top for £23!! It was starter size. I ordered the smoked salmon, avocado and rocket on a flat bread (so Italian) which was at best a brunch dish but the only thing on offer that was tempting from the four options. I ordered a large glass of wine and was given a small. And all for the princely rip off price of £78 and I left hungry. I wanted to try this place in the evening but given the bland pasta and quite frankly the whole experience, we won't be returning and I can't recommend it. Which is such a shame as Italian is my favourite food in the world and they had a fantastic wine list including Tignanello which is my favourite wine.
