Firstly, i want to say that up until December, the food was great even though albeit the prices were too high. recently, i went to chip stop fir a meal for me and my 2 kids. i ordered a large chips and a southern fried chicken piece and a kids nugget meal. the chips were very hard and once bitten quite dry for 2.80. i could've bought a bag of potatoes and made way more chips that are way fresher than what i experienced. now the nuggets were terrible. they were slightly pink inside and cold through but i pout this down to the amount of people waiting to be served and the rush they are all in. the southern fried chicken was 60 percent black fatty bits 30 percent bone and 10 percent chicken and £3.50 again i could buy a good quality 2-3 pieces that i can guarantee are not fatty and bone. i have a busy life as a care worker and i don't need the added stress of paying almost 10 pound for a meal that is cold, fatty and raw. the arrogance of the staff when i tried to get a refund. they obviously are in it for the profit not the customer service. i'm appalled at the sheer lack of care for anything and wont be paying your overpriced prices any more. you have lost a valued customer because of the obvious pound signs in your faces

Just over a year ago, I was diagnosed with coeliac disease so I'm now living a Gluten Free life. I was thrilled to hear that Chip Stop in Penn offer Gluten Free fish and chips (amongst other things) every Tuesday and Saturday and ensure that food is prepared seperately (as I think the person that owns the chippy is also coeliac so totally GETS the whole disease and cross contamination thing). I not long got back from the Chip Stop to have our chippy dinner, which is a rare treat for us even before I was diagnosed with coeliac disease. The food tasted lovely, wouldn't even know it was gluten free. The mini fish and chip portion was actually quite filling and the meal along with my partners gluten containing food was reasonably priced. I was very pleased with the service from the very helpful staff. We decided to pop to the shop to order in person and though it was a busy Saturday evening and my Gluten Free food was prepared seperately, it took no more than 7 to 10 mins to wait for my food. Thank you Chip Stop team. I'll definitely pay a visit again.

Amazing especially if your coeliac on Tuesdays and Saturdays they offer gluten free options. Where batter is completely fine and got separate fryers and also separate workspace and also packaging paper as well separate. The staff are very lovely too !!!

This place used to be good food used to be excellent but it has gone down hill the quality of the food is appauling and has been maybe for a year now. I believe the staff who fry’s the food is to blame for the poor quality of food. The cod is always burnt inside where it is hard fish not soft as it used to be the ends of the cod inside is all hard, burnt and brown the onion rings are always burnt. Scampi is also rock hard and burnt. I recommended this place to all my family and friends. Many of us get our food from here every week and maybe spend £100 or more a week between the lot of my family. Another problem on a Friday night that I have noticed as a customer queuing up outside is that the delivery drivers are constantly coming in and out but not one of them sanitise theirs hands they are not social distancing either. I have noticed serving staff do sanitise their hands with a sanitiser dispenser by them which is excellent another issue is that there is no parking by the chip stop the drivers seem to be parked on the yellow lines which are meant for disabled people if the owner cared about his customers he would tell his drivers to allow the yellow line parking for his customers my mom is disabled and she loves the chips but the yellow line parking is always taken by delivery drivers who do not have a disabled badge displayed which now stops her from coming in she struggles with her legs. Delivery drivers seem to have priority parking over customers the owner needs to do something about the poor quality of food which is burnt majority of the time and the delivery drivers he will lose more customers particularly elderly customers I think our family and friends need a break from here as food standards are not good, disappointed chip stop it is not like you to serve poor quality food. I hope the owner takes this review on board and makes changes to the way his food is cooked and disabled parking for hid...

Tried Chip Stop for the first time tonight and I found it be a very decent chippy.

Pros

Great tasting chips, the plain were nice but the battered were very good, a very light batter, not too heavy with the right amount of crunch. Not oily either and we're freshly cooked, I watched them prepare and fry fresh. The price I found to be very fair, mini fish and chips with a choice of sauce was £5.50 OR £6 I can't remember but for that you get a decent sized portion of fish, bang on for the money and a decent portion of chips, so not sure what other people have stated below about portions being small, they definitely wasn't. Good friendly service but was a little slow, it was expected as there were queues the whole time I was in there waiting for my food. All food was prepared fresh and because of that I didn't mind waiting.

Cons

The masala fish I had I think contained red food dye, please guys if you're reading this just do your masala mix without the dye or add tandoori masala in for the red colour. The shop I felt needed a little updating, tiles were cracked and loose on the floor and the menu boards really looked old. Apart from that a great overall experience.

Any customers in Penn if you're thinking of popping here get yourself in and at least try their chips, definitely a decent...
