Edit from march 2025:
After another refurbished I decided to try here again with my family and the food was barely edible, I had a mixed grill where only the chips were properly cooked, the chicken was easily boil in a bag, steak was like rubber, gammon and sausage was black, the peas and mushrooms were boiled... it's just not worth coming here.
Edit from 20th November 2022:
My mum and I decided to go and try the newly refurbished pub as its local to us. I highly recommend you go to the springhill just around the corner instead.
We entered the building to not be greeted for a few minutes until the bar staff said hi and a guy in a sports cardigan, unbuttoned polo and joggers came along and said 'ill just check the tables' and walked away and came back a little later to take us (walk-ins) to the back of the resturant surrounded by tables with kids (it happens, but oh well).
We then found out after an amount of time waiting that the pub is now order at the till and we decided to have steaks as they are a pretty good way to gage how good a pub is for food. Asked for medium rare, we definitely got medium at the least, loads of chips, cheap, covered in oil, onion rings were cooked but had uncooked batter still and raw onion, definitely frozen. Frozen peas and fresh uncooked tomato also.
When the staff came to take the plates away they almost took my mums half full gin and tonic too!
There is a few new waiters and the one we got was nervous so maybe they haven't been trained enough also.
We left without ordering dessert.
Please go to the springhill instead if you want good food.
Start of 2022 review: I used to go here when it was 2 for 1, and it was a great cheap meal out for a large group with plenty of choice. They removed the 2 for 1 and then became low quality for expense, now changing hands a couple times, it is finally a pretty decent pub meal at a good price.
I had a mixed grill and i was surprised at the amount of food for the price, and it was all cooked exactly how it should've been! And the deserts have always been great!
Great aura, wheelchair friendly, great service, definitely expect pub meals though, but with some good...
Read moreWe were directed to our table by the bar staff, but weren't told that we had to order our food at the bar, and nothing in the area instructed to do so. I ordered our food from a member of the bar staff, at the bar, after I realised that is what I had to do. I had a chicken and bacon club sandwich, and my friend ordered the Hunters chicken melt. We had quite a wait for our food, but didn't mind as it gave us a chance to have a good old natter. When our meals arrived, my friends meal was not the one she had ordered. I informed the table staff, who was really apologetic, and took my friends meal away. This meant I had to eat my meal while my friend was waiting for hers, and had finished mine by the time her correct meal arrived. ( Not good practice)! The table staff were so lovely and apologetic. I ordered more coffees from her, and she said she would inform the bar staff. We waited absolutely ages and no coffees arrived, so I went up to the bar and enquired and was informed by the table staff, that the bar staff would not make our coffees unless we paid upfront. As my friend was still eating her meal, it must have been obvious that 2 ladies in their late and early 70's were not going to make a run for it without paying. The bar staff was not in evidence, so the lovely table staff made our coffees for us. Apart from the problems, which we did not complain about, I have to say, that our lunches were really lovely, and well presented, and the table staff made us feel very welcome. The pub itself was warm, clean and comfortable, on a freezing November day, and I would certainly...
Read moreThought I would briefly write a review to help parents of young children. We had not visited since the refurbishment, but unfortunately it's still the same. Yes, it's a kind environment for children because they have space to move around which gives us parents 2 minutes peace!! But ultimately this comes at a sacrifice, the food. Ordered 3 children's meals just bog standard nuggets, waffles etc. They were all soaked in oil obviously deep fried, I complained to what appeased to be the manager but she just said she'd ask the chef to not fry them as long next time! Doesn't really help me though!! Didn't wants to spoil my kids experience of couple hours out with mom so just concluded we will never visit again. ( also exposed ends of screws in ladies toilet cubicle 2 year's later... Unbelievable) Why can't these family style restaurants look after our children's arteries?! and cook in the oven? Wouldn't feed this to a dog 🐶 Update. Visited today, after what must be 3 years plus . Staff are more professional, and seem to genuinely care about providing a good service. Not 2 for 1 any more but makes no difference to how much you spend anyway ! We had a pleasant evening with our 3 kids ( all had adult meals) spent nearly £100 but we enjoyed it. Definitely better...
