4th July 2021: After having been here on my own for some lunch, I told my wife, stepdaughter and her boyfriend that we would get together here for a roast dinner lunch on us! I booked ahead and asked for a "non-sports TV" room/table and we were taken exactly to there despite this request. We did get moved to the other quieter dinning side room/s but even the booth for 4 we were taken to had a small TV...!! Service was slow, drinks and food order only taken about 15 minutes after we were shown our table. We ordered two rounds of roast Beef dinner, a steak and a roast chicken dinner. There were No roast potatoes and instead offered mash or chips...and No horseradish as well! The roast Beef dinner was piled high but the Beef itself was really hard...leather and wr must've got the end drags of the Beef joint/s I so rated the Gatehouse but unfortunately not this time and we definitely won't be back. Never mind what my wife said about her Beef bits......so disappointing I'm afraid to say! Popped in here today for a spot of lunch and a pint....really impressed seeing it's right near the A449 dual carriageway road and a roundabout... Well organised, the staff were excellent, very friendly, welcoming, attentive and felt immediately at home. A BIG THANK YOU AND SHOUT OUT TO JESS (RIN), JON AND GRACE, the chef and the other staff too...WELL DONE ALL!!! 👍👍👍👍👏👏👏👏👏👍👍👍👍 There is a good social distancing maintained, a big dining area inside which doesn't make it restricting or claustrophobic due to Covid rules. The toilets were modern, spotlessly clean and nicely decorated. There are separate areas for those that want to watch the football/sport TV and those that want a table away from this with good music in the background being played at a good volume which doesn't intrude with people's conversations...I chose the latter. My pint of Abbot and a half of John Smith's ales was perfect and my spicy chicken kebab with cajun mayo and bits of chilli with the salad was perfectly cooked, fresh and delicious...I must confess to having a pudding too...don't know how I did but my STICKY SPONGE pudding with CUSTARD was so lovely and deliciously yummy!! The menu is generous for choices, covers adults as well as children and the over 60's too with special meal deals for this group. The prices are very good value and affordable in comparison to other pubs that I have been to over the last year or so. Overall, I will definitely be recommending The Gatehouse, Donington Grove, Mercury road, Wolverhampton as a lovely, very friendly and welcoming pub with amazing staff, great food and drinks at affordable prices too....

My first visit several weeks ago was very positive. I opted for the meat free breakfast which was good. My second visit on the 25th March was OK for my friend but a complete disaster for me. I ordered the meat free burger (see the pathetic offering in the pics). It arrived several minutes after my friends which was a poor start. When the offering was placed in front of me I could see the burger wasn't quite right. I lifted the bun to see a part dried, part cooked, part uncooked, lukewarm burger. I returned the meal via a server and agreed to have the same meal again. After several minutes, low and behold on inspection the second burger was exactly the same. I called a server over to advise of my disdain at such unprofessional service. I was informed the problem is that the burgers are a poor product. If a company is aware they are stocking a poor product why serve it. I told the server that in my opinion the burgers have been left in the freezer too long and I haven't had a problem with any meat free alternatives in my 9 years of not eating meat. I was offered drinks or an alternative meal but I declined. I accept things go wrong but it happened twice during one visit is totally unacceptable. I would rather suck on Ice Lollies made from frozen rat urine than visit this establishment again. Vile! The place does have its positives which I noted at the start of the review. The staff are pleasant and helpful but I don't visit a pub to eat based on the servers alone.

Arrived for afternoon lunch today around 1pm. Pub was fairly quiet which was not to be unexpected on a Tuesday mid month. Ordered from the Tuesday deal 'Mix it Up'. I had the salmon with sweet potato fries and mexican pasta and my partner the southern fried chicken skewers with spicy rice and fries. Food arrived quickly and hot. My salmon was very tasty and nicely cooked along with the sizzling peppers and onions which can some times come a little soggy. SFC was also perfect and both dishes well worth the £9 we paid for each. We have visited the Gatehouse multiple times and we have never had a bad meal. HH offers great value dining for families especially. Only downside is the price of the drinks. Toilets were out of order as I understand they were receiving some maintenance today so used the disabled which were also clean and stocked

I don’t usually take the time to write reviews, but this place absolutely deserves it. From the moment I walked through the door, the atmosphere was warm, welcoming, and full of character. The staff went out of their way to make us feel comfortable—friendly without being overbearing, and genuinely attentive to the little details that make all the difference.

The food was outstanding. Every dish we tried was clearly made well and a lot of care. The menu strikes the perfect balance between classic pub favorites and more creative options. I had the fish and steak and ale pie, which was rich, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. My friend ordered the cheese burger, and it was hands-down the best I’ve ever had from a hungry horse. Even the side, were delicious in their own right.

The drinks menu was just as impressive. A fantastic range of beers on tap, a carefully chosen wine list, and some excellent cocktails that really surprised us with their quality. The bartender clearly knows their menu, and it showed in every glass.

What stood out most, though, was the atmosphere. It’s the kind of place that works equally well for a relaxed afternoon drink, a casual family meal, or a lively evening out with friends. There’s a genuine sense of community here, and you can tell that both regulars and newcomers are made to feel at home.

Overall, this pub is everything you could want—delicious food, great drinks, fair prices, and a team that genuinely cares about your experience. It’s rare to find a place that ticks every box, but this one really does. I’ll definitely be coming back, and I’d recommend it to anyone looking for a proper food and drink spot that goes...
