A reviewer recently said "meals are to die for" - not our experience unfortunately. We started visiting independent pubs after so many poor 'everything-deep-fried' experiences from the likes of Hungry Horse and Marstons pubs. Our first visit here was several months ago and we really enjoyed what we ordered from the specials menu. Last night was our second visit and the specials sounded quite underwhelming so we ordered from the main menu, with a few extra starters in case the main was rubbish (as is our custom, the experience we're used to). Food arrived very quickly and we gave each other the 'uh-oh - it's all deep fried' look. We were right. And the oil they used clearly needed changing. Anything with a crust/coating was mostly crust, especially the calamari, and was either dry inside (e.g. goujons) or too greasy. The garlic bread included in the 'sharing' combo hadn't even been cut (these little things count...). Everything came with 'crispy' salad so we had salad everywhere - but the leaves weren't very fresh, some were quite bitter and a lot of it was wilted or turned a funny colour - and the salads were 80% leaves, so not great. We don't like to waste food (and I can eat a lot) but we just had to leave most of the greasy chips, crusts and salad leaves. Puddings were nice but not nice enough to render the overall experience as good. The table behind us also had a poor experience and were there less than half an hour. As for atmosphere, a lady on the table next to us kept staring and frowning at us, I'm not sure what the issue was as we were quiet, unlike the group a few tables away. Our food waitress was polite enough but the young lady who took our drinks order didn't even have a non-alcoholic drinks menu, and couldn't list what soft drinks suitable for kids, which I thought was quite strange, considering there were clearly children present. Funnily enough, the dessert menu had hot drinks listed on the back but we didn't get that until after our mains. Overall, we felt like we were back in a local Hungry Horse where the regulars look at you funny. Except we spent twice as much. Which...
Read moreRight so been here quite a few times over the years and went back yesterday for My son's birthday and apart from a few tiny niggles (forgetting to put lime in a couple of pints, bringing chips on a meal when not requested for the add on and getting a j20 mixed up, place being damn hot inside, did someone put the heating up lol) I must say food was nice and with a group of twelve with alot of fussy eaters to please. Desserts were really, really tasty, not out the freezer like many others with plenty of poring cream! Staff that dealt with our table were friendly and patient. Nearly lost a phone but staff located it and we were happy one of the children got it back. Question is would we recommend to others and would we go back? After looking at it all, service, cost etc the answer is yes to both! So a big thank you👍 To be totally honest you have put alot of other local places to shame so please keep the standard up and see...
Read moreNice place. Friendly staff, but no one seemed to be assigned a table to serve and we just kind of had about of everyone which is fine.
We both had Sunday dinner and the little one had sausage. Main was really nice and a very decent portion.
Pudding was abit of a disaster, asked for an apple and blackberry crumble, started eating it and realised it was cherry. (I'm allergic to cherries) asked the waitress when we could finally grab her and she confirmed it was cherry and apologised that she'd forgotten to mention it was cherry and off she went..
Waited for someone to come over regarding it but nothing. Finally asked for the bill. Still charged for it and no acknowledgement from management.
All in all its a nice place with decent food. Just be wary if you...
