Don't quite know where to begin with this one. So ok, place is a little small but nice & clean with good ambience. Food was ok, probably give that 3.8 out of 5, but there was a bizarre interaction that pretty much wrote off the evening for me. 25 years of pubs & mixed grills, but this was truly a unique experience.
I ordered a pint of Blue Moon, which was brought to my table. I noticed immediately it looked quite flat, took a sip & it was quite literally the worst pint I've ever been served in my life, no exaggeration.
I tend to avoid awkward interactions so I decided to take the L, put the beer aside & send my wife up to get me a Madri. I know most normal people would complain & get it exchanged or refunded, but I really just wanted a hassle-free time after a long day.
When my wife went up, they raised it themselves and asked what was wrong with my first pint, so she told them. This is where it went downhill. Me, a 42 year old man who's drank many lovely pints of Blue Moon in my time, found myself being educated(!) by a young bloke that the pint was flat because it was fresh out of a new barrel and this was normal??? Again I just nodded because I really couldn't be bothered getting into it. He took it away anyway, and you can Judge for yourselves from my pictures.
I was then asked if my pint of Madri was ok, which it was, but there was such a condescending, insulting tone in the question, as if I was a chancer or something? Remember, I hadn't raised the issue myself. I didn't allow this to escalate as I truly wanted a chilled evening with my family. Sadly the damage was done regardless. I didn't request a refund, nor was I offered one, so they can keep that as their tip or something.
We ordered the same things we order at other places, and even if you account for the dud pint and knock a fiver off, it was still higher priced than much better places out there.
I had been so impressed at how this place openly advertised itself as a non-hallaal restaurant. I'd even passed on their info to my friend who runs a prominent page on Facebook about non-hallaal restaurants to hype them up. I really hoped to be giving 5 stars just for...

We booked a table and had a party of 3 and arrived on a busy Friday night. They seated us at a small table where the food barely fit on it, however it was the only table available.
We ordered a family grill with no lamb chops and extra fish. The family grill is £22.50 and includes prawns. There was 3 of us. We received a large grill with no prawns. When we made them aware the lady was very rude and said we was wrong. Then when she checked she came out with 2 prawns on a plate and shrugged it off. Was we supposed to split that up into little pieces between 3 of us? Surely you would put at least 3 prawns on the grill for 3 people as a minimum and for the inconvenience. By there logic 2 prawns are worth the £4.50 price difference so why would you ever order the family grill?
The chicken on the grill was rather dry as they use breast over thigh but the kebabs were really nice. The wings were ok but needed to be charred a bit more. The fish on the grill was also good. However it wasn't cod. Would have expected that for the price we paid.
The Rara lamb was nice but the pieces of lamb were too small and not tender enough. The butter chicken had a nice sauce but the quality of the meat wasn't good. It definitely wasn't fresh. Like that cheap chicken you get in a takeaway meal from a supermarket. The chicken manchurian was good but for the portion we got it was rather expensive.
Chilli chips were a big disappointment. Tasted like cheap oven chips coated in very little sauce that wasn't even spicy. Also expensive for what they were. The naan was nice. But its really hard to mess up naan.
The overall atmosphere in the pub is good but it's very small and cramped inside. We would've stayed for more drinks but after the food we just wanted to leave. This was my second visit and both experiences have been average at best. Won't be coming back unless...
Read moreThe Orange Tree - Wolverhampton
After a fellow group member was given a recommendation we opted to try the Orange tree. “Blows the lot out the water” is what was said.
We arrived to a very clean and quite snug environment. Its not the biggest of places so i can see it being really busy on weekends. We were quickly shown to a table and due to the 4 of us ordering a fair amount we were then given an extra table to compensate the large order. A member of staff also fixed the table as it had a bit of a wobble.
Plenty of tvs available to watch with the football on which is always a bonus.
Large mixed grill - chicken tikka was to die for. Very well cooked and juicy. This could be up there with the best. The lamb chops felt tough to cut but they actually melted in your mouth to our surprises. Sheesh kebab was abit of a let down. Not much flavour to it and a rather small portion. Fish pakora was bang on. Very fresh and crispy batter with a fluffy middle. Chicken wings were ok. Nothing wrong with them but nothing special either.
Chilli chips - these failed if im honest. Plenty of sauce and chilli taste but very soggy and did seem to be abit under cooked.
Massala sauce - again nothing stood out with this. Just a very basic massala sauce.
Keema naan - plenty of meat inside but was a tad greasy for me.
Overall not a bad experience. It certainly doesnt ‘blow the rest out of the water’ id put it mid table in the venues that have been visited.
I will say that the customer service from the staff is up there with the best we have received. From being welcomed to our table to being given the doggy bags to take home. The lads really did make the effort.
Overall score id give it 7/10 i would return but maybe...
