Cracking food. Haven't had a decent curry from anywhere in years , but WOW......this place knocks it out the ball park. I had chicken tikka massala / lamb bhuna combo with keema pilau rice , mushroom bhajee and a keema naan. The other half had a mix veg biriyani , mushroom bhajee , Tarka Dhal side dish and a peshwari naan , and we both loved it. Will be going back again in the future. 10 out of 10.
UPDATE 16/8/25 - RESTAURANT NOW UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT AND RENAMED THE ROYAL DARBAR. We thought we would try the food from here , as the spice lounge was our go to place for curries. We had 2 x biriyani's(veg biryani and a biryani that had chick peas , chicken tikka and keema meat in it , cant remember it's name) and a tarka dhal side. On getting them home , the food looked good but , and here is the but , both mine and partners meal was ordered online as MILD , what we received wasn't mild and my partner found something dark and possibly black / dark purple coloured in her food. She made the mistake of trying to eat it and found out it was a chilli of some kind. Now both my meal and hers were HOT , and just on our threshold of heat pain. We ate the food , but the food isn't the same from here now , so much so , that I don't think we'll be going back , unless they get the previous chef / chefs back. The new chef needs to calm down with the chilli , as not everyone likes their food hot , especially when ordered as a mild meal. Poppadoms supplied were salty as hell too. Had many Poppadoms over the years , but I've never had any as salty as these. Disappointing , food rating previously 10 out of 10 , now a...
Read moreWe used to be regulars here when our children were young some 15 years ago. I am not sure why but I thought the wife and I should give it another try. I can't say it's the cosiest place around but apart from that it ticks all the boxes, especially the BYOB one. It's your typical Bangladeshi restaurant so no worries about choosing from the menu, not that our waiter was familiar with it. The food overall was good but the chicken was a bit dry in the wife's Balti and my Pathia. Apart from that everything else was very good. It's obviously doing a few things right as the large dining room was quite full even though it was only just gone 6.00pm on a Friday. One of these is possibly their prices, one of the cheapest meals we have had for a long time. Driving past here recently I noticed a new sign above the door. The Royal Darbar Nepalese, well I just had to give it a go and I am glad I did. On entering it was a case of spot the difference and in all honesty I couldn't find one apart from a new menu but it turned out to be a good thing. I was expecting it to be licensed but you can still take your own alcohol. You will recognise the guys there and you'll also notice a couple of new faces. All are super friendly. We all have our own preferences and there are a few new tempting choices on the menu. I couldn't speak more highly of my clay pot dish and the wife raved over her salmon with a saag aloo side. The sides were excellent too, we couldn't fault any of it. Prices have gone up since we were last here but that's to be expected, still good value...
Read moreI HAVE not eaten here since I had a bad experience. Big sign offering a buffet meal and service. Food orders taken which I was surprised about. We had starters and when I asked how the buffet worked as orders were taken and table service was used. The waiter then informed me the buffet was not on that evening and there was a sign on the bar. There was a enormous banner across the front of the building offering a buffet. The food we had was average not bad and not good enough to make me want to go back again. Service below average and more so disappointing as I anticipated much better. Perhaps my experience was unusual there was a problem with no effort to resolve there issue. I paid the bill in full and without question. A gesture of apology or a small reduction on the bill would have been appreciated as the food bill was 80% more than expected. All because there advertising I found to be confusing as it was different as to what...
