We recently visited The Castle for a family meal to celebrate our daughter’s birthday and were initially very excited to try out the new pub. Unfortunately, our experience was quite disappointing.
To begin with, our daughter’s lemonade was served in a dirty glass with someone else’s lipstick on it – not something you’d expect anywhere, let alone a brand new venue. When placing our order, I clearly specified three times that we wanted cheeseburgers with no tomato. The lady taking our order seemed distracted, barely paying attention and constantly looking around.
After waiting a full hour, I asked a waitress about our food, only to be met with a rude and dismissive “Yes, it will be a long time, darling.” When the food finally arrived after an hour and ten minutes, both burgers came with tomatoes. Our daughter was also given a cheesy chips with a strange nacho-style sauce she never ordered, and my loaded chips never arrived at all.
While the pub itself looks lovely, the service was chaotic and disorganised, and the overall experience left a lot to be desired. The food was average, but the poor service overshadowed everything. Sadly, we won’t...
Read moreWe want to thank The Castle for there hospitality this evening and the free ice-cream, we took our son here for his first pint on his 18th birthday, Daniel was so kind, courteous and a fantastic manager, we regularly come in and I must say under this new management the pub really has turned itself around, I didn't like The Golden Lion before but I'm converted to regularly coming down for a drink or two (or three of four....) hopefully it won't be the last my son will experience a evening out here with us sampling what they have to offer, I'm not condoning drinking, we all at a young adult liked to enjoy drinking (I certainly have) but I hope with us he can enjoy drinking responsibly as a family or maybe with friends. Thank you to all the staff for being so kind and obviously asking for his ID which we were only to happy to oblige We'll...

My friend and I both chose rump steaks, one to be cooked rare and one medium rare. The medium rare one was so thin and so overcooked that it was frankly in edible and the staff completely agreed with me and took it back. The second one arrived to replace it and it was so undercooked that I couldn't eat it. The waitress again agreed and returned it to the kitchen where it was recooked and came back passibly edible. My friend ordered hers rare and it was at best medium to well done. I had intended coming back again on Wednesday with a different friend who is visiting for the day but I am having second thoughts. However, I have to say the desserts...
