I went to this place on the recommendation of a friend, to be honest, just looking at the place I would not have gone in, from the outside it looks like a cheap nasty place. Going into the place quickly dispels that notion. Firstly the place was packed and teaming with people inside and out with their extensive outdoor seating looking out over the Goring beach front. The cafe was full of staff trying to keep up with orders and this is clearly a very popular place. The counters leading up to the tills are brimming with a fantastic variety of cakes and quiches as well as showing the extensive cooked menu. My wife and I had a cooked breakfast there which was excellent, perfectly cooked and not overly greasy and will be defiantly come back to try the lunch menu. This is very much a case of not letting looks deceive you as this is a truly excellent cafe under a worn-out-looking exterior.

The service was great! Really friendly staff and accommodating. The food was tasty and prepared well, served hot and promptly. The venue itself is nice, tidy and hygienic with plenty of seating options including inside or in a marquee area outside with overhead heaters. The price of the food was a little steep for my liking but I can’t knock the quality - £16.95 for a full English breakfast consisting of 1 x Egg, 2 x Bacon Rashers, 2 Butcher’s Choice Sausages, 1 x Tomato, 1 x Portion of Mushrooms, 2 x Small Hash Browns, 1 x Portion of Beans (I swapped the beans out for a portion of fried onions) and 2 x Slices of Granary Toast as well as one cup of filtered coffee. Overall, great place to stop and eat - so long as you’ve got a little extra pocket change!

Visited here a number of times, the last being on Sunday 1st September. As always, the food was excellent and I can highly recommend the bacon, brie and cranberry panini. Despite how busy it was, queues were dealt with quickly and professionally, and the food arrived quickly and was top notch as always. The menu has something for everyone, and the selection of desserts is good, again catering for most dietary needs. The atmosphere both inside and outside was good and friendly, and the staff were quick to turn tables around, meeting the pace of the day. Again, with how busy it was, the seating areas were clean and organised, with attention to detail paid by all the staff. I cannot recommend this place enough and I'm looking forward to the next visit.

I ordered a toasted sandwich and a tuna and mayo sandwich and two coffees. £22... I had a young baby in my arms and asked if the coffee tray could be brought down to me as my wife was looking after our other baby..( twins) I was told No..it will be brought with your food....They could easily have brought our coffee with our food, or just brought the coffee with one of the servers...so I had to take our baby back down the steep steps to my wife and then go back for the coffees. I had asked for no chocolate on the cappuccino....unfortunately it was covered in chocolate.....our toasties arrived the young girl serving us was pleasant, no complaint with her. However my Cheese and Onion toastie was actually cheese and tomato.....I Took it back and was told that was what I ordered, I politely said she must have misheard as I had definitely not ordered cheese and tomato. She agreed to correct the order, no apology ...just a rather unpleasant attitude blaming me....I do not particularly like cooked tomato so there was no way I would have ordered it....also cheese and tomato I later checked does not appear as a choice on the menu !!!!. The toastie cost a little over £8.00, the cheese was so mild it was completely tasteless. I think I would have put up with the mistakes if the person behind the counter was more pleasant . Never good to blame a customer or make two mistakes with the order. I have been here many times, it is pricey for what it is, but the location is perfect, the staff who bring the food to the table are always helpful and polite, generally the food is good , so it was disappointing our experience...

This is a difficult one to review because the rating largely depends on whether you visit during the week or the weekend. But, today was a weekend. A Sunday.

Having let the lunchtime rush die down, we managed to find a table inside (the availability of tables is very cyclical - one moment they're full, the next they're almost empty!). Decided to have a hot chocolate and cake.

As is usual, it's difficult to find fault with the food, except this time, it was a tiny, tiny slice of cake. And I mean tiny. Very mean. The drinks were fine. This place usually serves generous portions, but today, clearly not. The queues were long and slow, and the service was abysmal. Again, usually, pretty good.

The general housekeeping was also poor, with general table cleaning done, admittedly quickly, but very slap dash. If you're lucky, a couple of couldn't-be-bothered squirts of some kind of disinfectant (?), and the merest of casual, couldn't-be-bothered wipes of the cloth.

It was clear that the weekend staff are completely different to that during the week.

So, if you want a mean-portion-size slice of cake, at a dirty table, served by couldn't-really-be-bothered staff, Sunday is the day to go.

Oh, and if you're not a mad fan of dogs? Forget it. Dogs everywhere. Outside and inside the awning section, I understand. But up inside the main restaurant, too? Nothing quite like a couple of large, wet, inquisitive dogs blocking any form of gangway is a disgrace. Throw in the couldn't-be-bothered cleaning, and one is no doubt eating dog hair and dog slobber. Still, possibly more slobber than cake on a...

It’s been a while since I returned here as my last visit was pretty poor. Anyhow, I thought I’d give it another try.

On Friday 18th July 2025 I purchased Cod and chips for two (takeaway) which came to £37 (£18.50 each). That was the first shock.

The chips were under cooked (the type you buy in a supermarket) and the fish was grey in colour and tasted off (possibly Pollock being passed off as Cod). In the end we threw the majority of it away.

The tartar sauce was ok though, and this was included in the meal.

Mushy peas and / or garden peas were at an extra cost (£2 each if memory serves) so I cannot review those as I didn’t buy any.

This isn’t the first time the hot food (other than breakfasts) has been pretty poor. Shame really because I am local.

The staff are young and often inexperienced in dealing with the ageing demographic (which is the majority of visitors here along with numerous dog walkers) and I have to say they aren’t entirely polite.

Oh dear, poor show all round, again.

Been coming here since approx. 1989 and unlikely...
