Unfortunately I am unable to comment on the food as we didn't get that far. After 30 minutes of appalling service we walked out.
The last straw which led us to walking out was when I walked up to the two girls stood there chatting to find out where my bottle of red wine was to be told by the waitress "did you want us to open it or did you? As we don't know how to' then hand me the corkscrew. I was even going to open it myself aswell but when she then handed me an ice cold bottle of red I had to leave.
The lead up to the penultimate moment was bad service from the moment we walked in, the woman at the door who I believe is the owner unfriendly, didn't want to be there, pointed at a table, didn't give us menus. Sat there for 10 mins with no menus no acknowledgement of us being there so I finally got up and picked them up myself. Again a further long period of time went by with the waitresses just setting tables around us and ignoring all of the people on tables wanting their order taken. Finally the waitress came over, we asked her to explain what a dish was which she was unable to do as she didn't know what it was so we ordered something else. Finally able to relax now we had ordered, however it was difficult to as you could see around you other tables being ignored, peope waiting at the door to be sat and being ignored. No other table in there seemed to be happy. There was plenty of staff they all just stood about and didn't really seem to understand what they should be doing.
They bring over my dad's water but no sign of our wine. We give it some time and after about 5 or 6 minutes and the girls just stood in the corner I went over to investigate, that's when I had enough and chose to go elsewhere.
The chef who is also the owner did then at this point ask what was wrong but now I just wanted to get out of there and said we were leaving. I have never faced such a mess of a service. It was an unwelcoming atmosphere, the staff clearly are not trained, the owner has seemingly lost her passion for her new resturant already. I appreciate there are teething issues, and you are new but it's first impressions and for your staff not to even be trained in the basics, well its not good enough. Places who get it right fail every day - you are not getting it right.
I've heard your food is great, maybe you should focus on being a take away as you are certainly not a resturant not without making some serious changes and training.
I'm disappointed I couldn't stick it out until the food came as I was excited to try the vege options which we lack in other Greek...
Read moreGave Souvlaki a try for my birthday following recommendations from my BF. Friendliness of staff was brilliant, and first impressions were set high. Fantastic simple menu with out over complicating things by offering 100's of dishes. Starters were absolutely awesome. Sadly the bubble burst when our mains arrived. We were a large table. We ordered the meat sharers for 2 and the Greek salad. Salad was great with a nice slice of feta on top. But the sharer was where the wheels came off unfortunately. It look fantastic till we realised with a healthy portion to share. The bifteki was the only thing cooked fresh and hot. The 2 Sausages (1 Sausage cut in half) was stone cold, chips were almost room temp and tasted old.... you get the picture. The waitresses were completely apologetic and sent them back to be remade. Left as a sharer plates for 2 and returned as single plates reheated. 😭 turned out to be a very expensive starter and greek salad. Will give a 2nd chance. I hope it was...
Read moreWe couldn't fault the welcome and friendliness of the place but this was clearly a terrible evening for Souvlaki. The service seemed to fall apart despite the superhuman efforts of Tess (who is Greek) and appeared to be the manager. One waitress went home and the other falling ill. They ran out of some of the products too. Nevertheless, they rustled together a copious meal and we ate very well at exceptional value for money. Alas it wasn't the mixed grills we had ordered and we didn't get any Souvlakis which we had come for. The wine list is short and simple but really nice Greek wine at a very reasonable price. Hopefully these are temporary growing pains. With the enthusiasm of Tess, Greek music, and decent authentic food it has all the elements of a successful popular eatery. We felt we were on the verge of a party. But they need to fix the mysterious draft at the back of the restaurant as well as the service because at least one couple appeared...
