I have been visiting this Toby carvery for many many years, and my last three or four visits have been awful, on Thursday evening. I took my father and the rest of my family to the carvery for his 90th birthday celebrations. We stood waiting to be served for six or seven minutes and nobody appeared there were waiters going in and out of the kitchen and I asked if there was anybody serving and the waiter gave me a rude response and walked off. Eventually he returned and went into the kitchen and the chef came out and apologise for keeping us waiting. The meat selection was very good, but the vegetables were almost empty dried out and the roast potatoes were rockhard, none of us ate our roast potatoes. There are two vegans in our party and they always order the vegan option and when it is ready the waiter comes to tell us and then we all go up for our food. On this occasion. We sat there waiting for about 15 minutes and then went to the carvery and the vegan options were just on the top of the counter so then we went up to be served and then waited seven minutes so when we returned the table with our food the vegan options for stone cold. In general, the service was not good at all, and we will not be returning to this restaurant after being customers for...

Unfortunately, we have just (9:15pm on Friday the 4th August) left this establishment with a bitter taste in our mouths. The opening hours online state until 11pm yet when we stood and waited to be seated, I finally approached a young tall skinny chef talking about personal matters loudly to a colleague in the pub area. I asked him if there was anyone at "reception" to which he glibly replied "I don't think so because the kitchen is closed and the lights at the carvery are off" while there was still plenty of food available, we saw.
A young hostess arrived and she reiterated that they were closed and not serving any more arriving customers. I then enquired why the door was still open and why no "closed" sign was up to which she snootily replied "we can't lock the door while people are inside".
Their attitude continued as we walked out and I looked back to see them both laughing and shaking their heads. Rude to say the least.
If we could give zero, we would. We will certainly never set foot here again which is a pity as our previous experience was so amazing, from the chef (a nice one!) to our waitress who made us feel...
Read moreOur visit to the carvery was not great.
We initially spent 20 minutes waiting at the front door just to get to the reception desk to confirm that we had a table booked already (which we were then late for due to how many people were queued)
It doesn't seem fair that people who booked a table has to wait in the same queue as people who were turning up at 5pm on a Sunday expecting to get a seat without booking in advance, there should be a separate desk for people who booked or they should ask aloud if people booked rather than leave them waiting for so long.
After we finally sat down we had to wait another 30 minutes just to get our food, as it seemed that the chefs were too busy prioritising delivery orders rather than serving the people who are in front of them.
The food itself wasn't particularly great either, the mac and cheese had no sauce/cheese to it at all so it was just dry almost crispy pasta with how over cooked it was.
The staff were friendly enough to help us move seats when we requested and apologised enough about the wait times we experienced.
Would not be...
