This was such a sleeper hit! My wife and I were heading to DQ, but then she changed her mind and wanted to try this place. It was amazing! The selection was so vast! I had no idea baklava could be served in so many forms. The loqhum (which I would describe as a sweet and heavy gummie) was a first for me, but it is so good! Exactly sweet enough, and portioned in two bites (don't recommend single biting these). Then, we got some ice cream (still, lots of choices) to eat there, and I was glad too. The atmosphere was so comfortable and the cushions felt so good to sit in and lean against. Not a lot of table space, but it is better for the times we are in now. Most, and best, of all, the guy behind the counter was amazingly helpful. He knew so much and helped guide our way through the large selection without feeling like we were getting pitched what to order. He definitely gave us everything we needed to hear to be confident that, even though we had never had any of this before, we were confident that we would enjoy our selection of Turkish delights. If you want something sweet, not expensive, and new for your pallet, then please give this place your time. I really doubt that you will regret any choice you make here. Next time we go, my wife is going to try their fresh pressed coffee and I am getting a...
Read moreVisited for the first time today, apparently they under new ownership. They no longer sell entrees or coffee/tea, and only sell the desserts in the display. The ice cream also looked like it hadn’t been swapped in a while. The guy behind the counter struggled with English, and didn’t understand most of what I asked so I just ordered what turned out to be a basbousa. The dessert itself was alright, but when the guy behind the counter rang me up he charged me for a waffle cone and ended up costing $3.41 for a small slice. My friend initially ordered a cream filled baklava, then changed his mind to order two finger baklava, but the guy didn’t understand and put the cream filled baklava and the two finger baklava in the box. The guy ended up ringing up the order as some entree (I forget what exactly) and charged my friend $13 for the order. There are no signs that indicate the price for anything, and we initially came to get sweets and some shawarma to eat but felt bad leaving with nothing when we found out they no longer sold food, which is why we got some sweets in the first place. I was excited to try this place out but turns out I got unlucky with the timing. Lesson learned, sort by...
Read moreWhat a lovely surprise for a family outing on Memorial Day! We ducked into this Sedara Sweets, the cozy new sweet shop, conveniently located on MacKenzie Road near our corner of Affton. After weeks of anxiously awaiting their opening after watching the shiny new sign go up, we were not disappointed! My two boys enjoyed high butter fat, premium Cedar Crest Ice Cream from Wisconsin, while I enjoyed an iced latte made with Breve Coffee, a St. Louis based micro-roastery whose owner personally travels to each locale from where he sources his beans. My wife couldn't pass up trying several selections from their baklava case which boasts about a dozen different types of the delicate, sophisticated, and truly authentic pastries. Paired with an Arabic coffee, it was truly heaven. We will be sure to return for the freshly baked bagels, croissants, and muffins as well. Delicious, quality, local and affordable, Sedara Sweets has something...
