I had the pleasure of attending a book launch party for a novel called Miss Mary by Kathbell Stumpf at the Oakland House Museum. The event was amazing and the drinks were free! What more could you ask for? The novel is a paranormal mystery with elements of historical fiction set in the 19th century, and the Oakland House Museum was the perfect venue for it. The house is old, large and very well kept. It has a rich history and a beautiful architecture. The atmosphere felt great, with large rooms and a big driveway. The staff was friendly and helpful, and the museum had many interesting exhibits to explore. I especially enjoyed the antique furniture and the paintings. The book launch party was well-organized and fun, with a lively discussion with the author and a book signing session. I got to meet some fellow book lovers and learn more about the novel and its inspiration. I highly recommend visiting the Oakland House Museum if you are interested in history, culture or just looking for a relaxing day out. It is a hidden gem in Affton, Missouri, and a great place to host events like book launches, weddings or parties. Just make sure you don’t drink too much of the free booze, or you might end up in one of the museum’s...
Read moreBeautiful place although it's definitely haunted as I've had paranormal experiences there growing up as a kid in that neighborhood. The owner of the property and the house, lake, and cemetery also says the place is definitely haunted including his own home down the hill a bit. Have seen personally figures walking past windows when noone should have been there at night. Had even been handcuffed by police one night thankfully the security cameras proved we never stepped on property and that some how the front door had unlocked and opened it self ajar which when a neighbor saw us just sitting there at end of drive way talking, they assumed we were up to no good. On our walk home police detained us and almost gave us a breaking and entering charge thankfully Greg, creg, or Mike I can't remember the owners name came to my rescue and confirmed to the cops that I and my friends would never trespass and that he knows me personally. Poor swan on that lake growing up I always felt bad that...
Read moreIf you don’t want a tree to literally fall on your head while you’re saying your vows, don’t get married here. Multiple trees have fallen from their property (over the course of 5 years), nearly hitting multiple people without a care in the world from Nancy. She has given the run around for 20 days while the sick trees still stand looming over our home. Our neighbors are ALL fed up. What a shame someone like her is running the Affton Historical Society.
We have spent time at the Oakland house. Our daughter learned to ride her bike here. We have loved hearing the live music and thought this would be a better experience living next to this beautiful mansion. Solely because of having to have any sort of conversation with Nancy- it hasn’t been.
*there was no storm that caused this last tree to fall- it’s almost as if the trees need to be taken care of sooner...
