Update 26 March 2024:
Went to get a coffee, fixed it, took a sip, and realized it was not hot. I went back to the cashier and requested a refund. I was told there was no refunds. This is usually a policy that is implemented due to lots of refunds, probably due to quality issues. So instead of immediately offering to fix a new pot, they wanted to microwave my coffee in a styophoam cup. I was then reminded by the owner that it was a problem before, implying that I was a problem customer. They were referring to a time before when I ordered coffee and I went to fix it and they were out of sweetener. I requested a refund.
Food is still okay, but I feel like wanting hot coffee and sweetener has now, in their eyes made me a problem customer.
I've been holding off on this review because I do eat here sometimes as the food is "okay" and there aren't many options close by.
I would also say that their baked goods have gone way down hill. Getting bucket icing on things that should not have it, like cinnamon rolls. We don't buy baked goods here any more.
All in all, I would not recommend this establishment due mainly to customer service issues and declining quality of food. You can have the best food in the world, which they are far from, but if your customer service is bad and is dealt with an attitude, you will run customers away. How dare I have the standard of hot $3 coffee. Haha. BTW, ended up pouring coffee out due to it being nasty.
--END UPDATE--
Breakfast is just okay. Biscuits are not made in house, they come frozen and often not cooked to golden brown. Gravy is from a mix. Just okay... Don't get me wrong I come here often, but if I was going to Aiken or elsewhere I would consider...
Read moreI ate here for lunch today with my parents. We had high hopes but were somewhat let down. They do not serve soda, just iced tea, lemonade and coffee. They forgot to give us the side orders to our meals, so we had to go back to the counter to ask for them.
I had a grilled cheese with tomato. The bread was more toasted than grilled and the cheese was not melted at all. Tasted alright, but a little bland.
My dad and a ham and cheese sandwich and potato salad. There was quite a bit of ham, and he felt it was great quality ham, but they forgot the cheese and the bread was very dry and crumbly.
My stepmom had the sweet bologna and cheese sandwich and potato salad and enjoyed it well enough.
They both thought the potato salad was somewhat bland, but edible. We also thought the prices were a big high for just sandwiches.
We didn't try any of the bakery selections, but they did look rather delicious. They had a variety of donuts, cinnamon buns, cakes, cupcakes, brownies, bars, etc.
They also had a rack by the door where they sold brandes sauces, jellies, etc. We didn't purchase any, but it was nice to know if you found a salad dressing or sandwich spread that you enjoyed that it would be available for purchase.
We are hoping that they are still working out the kinks of a new business and will improve! We'll probably stop back in to try some of the baked goods one day, but will probably pass on the sandwiches unless...
Read moreJourneyed back in time today during my visit to Wagener Salley High School. the town of Wagener is stuck in about 1975 (and that's a good thing). After my interview visit to the school, I poked around the two streets that make up "down town" Wagener and I stumbled into the Little Bake Shoppe and Deli.
I ordered a roast beef sandwich on honey wheat. The roast beef looked and tasted like the kind my mother made except it was twice the size of one of hers. No "Subway deli meat" or bread in this place. The roast beef was home style and delicious, the bread made me wish I had bought a loaf as I "narfed" the sandwich down headed out of town and back to 2015.
For $8, i got a huge roast beef sandwich, chips (the only "prepared food" in the place, everything else is fresh made on site) a fabulous pickle spear that didn't come out a 5 gallon bucket (they were home made as well) and a glass of sweet tea and lemonade mixed that us Southerners refer to as an Arnold Palmer.
If you're ever in Wagener (and I struggle to think why you would be) it's worth a stop. Breakfast and lunch, baked goods looked delicious and if the bread is any clue they were. They had local canned relishes in the shop as well - my wife is getting a fresh jar of apple butter when I get...
