My whole family got sick from eating here.
First of all, this is no longer Jade Flames. The restaurant has changed its name to LiTi Pho which initially confused us when we were searching for it as we drove by. But GPS pointed us right to it, so we came in and asked if it was the right place.
The menu seemed to have been expanded from what was posted online for Jade Flames and initially we thought this was promising. But there were almost no options for kids. The gentleman at the register oh so helpfully suggested an order of French Fries. French Fries? That's supposed to be a meal? Not particularly a healthy option, either.
My husband and I looooove Bahn Mi sandwiches. We get them all the time at the big Saigon Supermarket Asian grocery further down Cottage Hill Road near University and Demotropolis just past the Big Time Diner. So we both ordered the Bahn Mi, but asked what came on them. We were told there was one with grilled pork and then a combo. We asked what was on the combo. The fellow at the register couldn't explain it very well. "With ham and stuff." We asked if grilled pork came on that one too and he told us it did, so my husband and I both ordered it. I asked for mine without jalapenos because I'm allergic to them, but my husband wanted his with them. Then came the fun game of trying to explain to this man at the register that no, my husband is diabetic and wants an unsweet tea, but wants Sweet-N-Low sweetener, NOT sweet tea. We ordered the Vermicelli Noodles with Egg Rolls and Grilled Pork for our child who loooooves noodles.
We got everything ordered and paid for and took a seat. My husband's tea came out. About five minutes later... my Thai tea came out (it was fantastic, by the way). Then we're waiting. Finally, another five to ten minutes later, I go up and ask for our child's drink; we'd ordered her a Coke. They brought... a bottle of Coke to the table. Why couldn't that have come out with the other drinks?
When our food came out, my husband didn't have jalapenos on his sandwich and had to ask for them. And there was no grilled pork on either of ours, so we had to ask about that, too. Come to find out, the gentleman manning the register was new and didn't understand the menu well and no, grilled pork doesn't come on the combo sandwich. Oh, and our child's food didn't come out with our sandwiches. And our appetizer... two springrolls arrived when the picture on the menu showed four... came out after our sandwiches.
The Bahn Mi were... meh. They were dry. There was no mayonnaise on them nor were the buns toasted. There was barely any cilantro on them. When our child's food did FINALLY come to the table... it was lukewarm. And last of all we got our pot of hot tea... and had to ask for a third cup.
The absolutely worst part of this entire experience? We all got sick from eating here. Even as I am writing this I am still feeling nauseated along with a stomach ache. My husband and my child both have diarrhea and stomach aches. My poor child lost control of their bowels before they were able to get to the toilet in time, so now we've got that mess to clean up.
We will NEVER come here again and strongly advise against eating here. If you want a good Bahn Mi, go to Saigon Supermarket. They also make fantastic egg rolls that they sell fresh if you get there around lunch time or dinner time! Tons of other great Asian food that they make, too. And we've never gotten sick from...
Read moreI had never had Vietnamese food and my husband wanted to eat their today. So I felt sure I would be able to find something on the menu. Now I have leukemia and am not really suppose to eat red meats and I rarely eat pork due to my religion. So since I didn’t really understand the menu and wanted to try their pho which was said to be the best in town, I asked about the pho because it said “rare” meat. The the guy stated that once they add the broth it cooks. Then why does the menu say it is rare. As umm all meat is rare until you cook it. No other restaurant does it say rare beef sandwich. No you automatic my know it will be cooked and usually can even state if you want it cooked extra well. Plus I have to have all my meats cooked extra well so I asked if they could cook it first before adding and the answer was NO. So I decided to go with #8 which was not pho but at least stated it was pork chops. I was fine if I had to eat pork chops as long it was cooked traditional(like a grill, or oven) and well done. So I got my food the pork chops was not in a pork chop form but small little pieces that were the pork chop fat. It was like taking and cooking a pork chop and then Just cutting off the fat portion. I hate fatty portions in meat. I always trim them off because the consistency me makes me gag. So I went back up and was going to order just a kids fried chicken tenders. However they stated they were out. I asked about getting some pho and having them accommodate me for extra $$$ and make a shrimp pho so I could at least get the Vietnamese experience of the pho dish. The answer was No. so I wasted my money on a dish I could not even eat. The pork had the consistency of raw oysters. I’m sure it was cooked but it was fatty and chewy as it was the fattiest end part of a pork cop. The menu stated it was a pork chop but it was not a chop at all. It was pork fat off I’df a pork chop. I have never been to a restaurant that wouldn’t substitute another meat they already have for another one. They had other dishes with shrimp just not the pho. I merely wanted pho with no meat and add shrimp. I was willing to pay whatever price was given. Even when you go Chinese they will do sweet & sour shrimp or Hunan shrimp instead of beef. You should be able to accommodate people. Especially new guest who have a strict diet of pork and red meats. Especially when the shrimp was readily available as you used it in...
Read moreLiti Pho is a hidden gem. I ordered the pho dac biet as carry out. I can say with certainty that is better than any of the other five places I've tried in Mobile so far. The staff was friendly, the price was reasonable, and the portion size seemed perfect. The broth was well-balanced, super flavorful, and I could tell it was made from scratch and not some version of a watered-down soup base. Also it had a nice jammy soft boiled egg yolk waiting for me in the bottom of the container. I was relieved to find that the meat (meatball, tripe, rare steak, brisket, tendon) was packaged separate, not suspended in with the broth and left to overcook. All of the toppings were noticeably fresh (thai basil, lime wedge, mung bean sprouts, thinly sliced onion, cilantro, jalapeno). The noodles were perfectly cooked, rather than fused together into a dense brick of carbohydrate. Everything was neatly bagged up with hoisin & sriracha packets, napkins, chopsticks, and a soup-sized spoon. If you're looking for a new favorite pho place, I highly recommend you give them a try. I know I'll definitely be...
