Read moreI found this Restaurant on a Facebook ad and decided to visit. After reading the reviews, I was excited to go. My friend and I visited and it didn't live up to our expectations. We walked in and weren't greeted at all. In fact, Tatiana yelled rudely across the restaurant asking if we had a reservation (which we did) and when I replied YES, she frowned & turned her head. To add insult to injury, she didn't even bother to check to see if we actually had one.
We decided to look past this because we wanted to sample the Oysters. We sat ourselves and waited to be helped. No one came to our table until the person who hosted the trivia games came to our table and asked if we wanted to play. I informed her that we were still waiting to order. The trivia host had to tell the staff that we haven't been helped. Had that not happened, we probably would have still been waiting. The restaurant is the size of a matchbox so it wasn't hard to tell what tables hadn't been serviced. When Abby (the server) finally came to our table, there was no greeting, pleasant gesture or apology. She just put a carafe of water on the table with 2 glasses and walked away. Now mind you, I had to ask for everybody's names because they didn't bother to introduce themselves.
At this point I'm already disappointed by the customer service but again we wanted to try to the food. After waiting another 7-10 minutes, Tatiana decided to finally come over to our table with a frowned face & poor disposition and took my friend's order. By this time, I was so disgusted with our treatment that I was ready to walk out. My friend encouraged me to stay and eat since we were already there. After 6 minutes (yes I timed it), Abby finally comes back to our table to take my order & acted fearful as if I was going to attack her.
While we were waiting for the food, I noticed Tatiana & Abbys' interaction with other patrons which were DRASTICALLY different from the treatment we received. Needless to say, we were the only BLACK people there. There were smiles, conversation and laughter but we weren't even ask if were ok or needed anything.
We finally got our food which were TWO Baked Oyster Samplers which were ok & the Baked Scallops which were delicious. That's why I gave 2 stars instead of 1. Maybe if we were treated better, it would have been higher. Totally killed my excitement. They were not friendly nor welcoming to us. I would not recommend any African Americans to dine here because it would be doing you a disservice. DO BETTER BY...
Read moreThis little place blew me away. I like to keep track of what places nearby are getting social media buzz and are getting voted for with various awards. But Wine 4 Oysters has none of that. What they did have was a killer Bite 30 menu this year. The Bite 30 menus were mostly boring and a way for restaurants to get a little bit of free marketing without actually putting on a show.
But not Wine 4 Oysters. They put out a good menu, it got my attention, and it was selected by me as one of the few places I went to for the event this year.
Apps:
Lobster, Crab, Shrimp Canoe (romain leaves, spiced avocado creme, peanut-horseradish aioli). This was GOOD. The goo was very rich with crab and shrimp, not a lot of filler. The bite from the aioli really made for a nice lettuce wrap. I liked this one. It was unique. And a random lobster claw on top is always appreciated.
Salmon Toastini (Nova, capers, guacamole, horseradish aioli and artisan bread). This one was nice. Nothing really in this dish to shine other than the quality taste of the salmon. And it was nice. I'd say a perfect average compared to all the fresh salmon I've ever had in my life.
Baked Oyster Sampler (2 of each: Rockefeller, Grill Cheese, On-Fire, Kilpatrick). Now this, was a good dish. This place obviously knows that dates come here and share things, so to provide two of each of these was genius. The Rockefeller was the best, obvi, and the On-Fire was, well, just be careful.
Lobster Risotto (with saffron and a splash of sherry wine (non-dairy). This was nice. Not very risotto-like. But it was a good Spanish-ish lobster rice dish. No complaints.
Macarons (Assortment of 5).
Seasonal Cake (Matcha Cheesecake).
Both desserts came from Trader Joe's. I know it. Not knocking their methods. I'm not a small business owner. And I like Trader Joe's. So, good on them.
Overall, this was a nice little place. I'm super happy that there's good places to eat in that part of town. And I hope that this place continues to participate in Bite 30, and hopefully also Magical...
