Boathouse was definitely a better experience than what my husband and I encountered about six years ago. The previous owner's friend who was an organizer of a reunion at the dive bar berated me in an email about my husband's conduct and that people complained about the smoke and noise coming out of our vehicle. I never gone back after that incident. This time around the new owner was friendly and pleasant. I had the shrimp ceviche tostada and two street tacos. My husband had the spicy tuna panini. For a dive bar, the food was great. The ambiance is nicer and it is not lit. It is also cleaner. They have a pool table at the end of the bar. There is an outdoor dining area in front of the bar. Definitely we will return for future visits.

This place definitely used to be a house at one time. I was a little worried after looking it up on Google, but turned out to be pretty cool little spot. Seems like there was a lot of neighborhood people in there eating the food looked really good not a lot to choose from but they have some specials sandwiches, regular bar food. They have a lot of different, specialty beers around the area. The bartender was really nice & knowledgeable. The one thing I could say at this place needs is a new bar top other than that pretty cool spot & not a bad location.

During my Alameda Restaurant Week coverage, I captured some highlights at Boathouse that showcase its character. It has a total maritime theme - it's the dive bar you want to love. This place is the epitome of sailor types, frequented by people who own boats or live on boats, and looks like a dockworker haven. Despite the rough-and-ready appearance, they serve good food with a great beer selection. It gets busy on weekend nights, creating a fun vibe that draws in both locals and visitors.

I'd driven past this place for years on my way to work and always wanted to stop in to check it out. Now that I don't drive past it on my way to work anymore, I decided to go there for lunch and a beer and to watch some of the NCAA basketball tournament. Go figure. It's a small place with a long bar, a couple of TV screens, a pool table, some tables to sit or eat at, an outdoor patio and a Touch Tunes jukebox. When I was there (lunch time on a Friday), lots of locals showed up. The atmosphere was genuinely relaxed and comfortable. One of the owners (Chris) and a bartender (Kurt) were there, and really made me feel welcome. I used the jukebox to play songs, selecting the songs on my phone while sitting at the bar with my food and drink. The volume was set just right, so you could hear the music but still converse easily. It was close to St Patty's Day, so they had corned beef sliders on the specials menu...I had three of them. Prices are good. It's a down to earth place that isn't flashy or pretentious, just a good honest pub. I'll be going back again, and I see no reason not to recommend stopping by. You'll be treated well and you just might have a good conversation with some...
