I have been going to the Red Fox for over three years now, and it has been the hang out spot of choice of me and all my friends during this time. When I meet transplants to Fairbanks, the place I have always given my FULL recommendation WAS the Fox. The food has always been some of the best I can find in town, especially the cheesesteak, the appetizer sampler, fried green beans, and the cheesy garlic bread. This has been my order of choice always and I have never been disappointed in the quality and consistency in quantity. I placed two orders for take out in the past month and a half. The first time, I noticed they started adding pot stickers to the appetizer sampler and reduced the number of other items, and they also changed the cheesy bread to a much less satisfying pizza style item. This was fine though, the variety was there and the price checked out to what I was used to on the receipt. The last time I went in and placed the same identical order, my appetizer sampler was totally missing fried green beans, and there were smaller quantities of everything else also. Also on my receipt I noticed The fox was now charging fifty cents per take out box, the cheesesteaks has risen two dollars each in price and were on different, cheaper, bread (which was not reflected on the online menu). I spoke with the bartender who took my order who told me that they were out of green beans and apologized at least for not being compensated, but also continued to argue prices had gone up five months ago, when i had just been there two weeks prior. She also contested with me that the portions were getting smaller in the appetizer sampler, even though I have eaten it probably twenty times. To top it all off, once I got home and started eating my garlic bread I found two very long hairs cooked INTO the cheese. Sorry Red Fox, But I have been increasingly unimpressed with your food and prices over the past six months. If you want to continue to be held as having the best bar food in Fairbanks, something has got to change. Until it does I will not be eating there nor will I be recommending my...
Read moreI visited the Red Fox Bar and Grill on 1/4/25 for dinner. I arrived there around 5:00 PM, early enough to avoid the evening crowd. There were only a few patrons dining in the restaurant. I have dined here previously on several occasions. I didn’t expect any change in the menu nor policy. I was caught by surprise when I was told that you could no longer divide the 2-pound order of chicken wings into two flavors of your choice. The new policy dictates that you must order 1 pound in one flavor and if you so desire order a 2nd pound in the flavor of your choice. The cost is $2 more to do it this way. Not a big deal but on principle, I thought this was not good customer service practice. I ordered appetizers with the dinner. I asked the server if the appetizers could be delivered to the table before the dinner arrived. I was told that this is not possible because the cooks prefer to serve the entire order at once. This is completely out of character based on my dining experience anywhere. However, the server did arrive with the appetizers just before the dinner arrived. In almost every case, chicken wings are typically served with sliced carrots and celery sticks. There were none. There were fewer chicken wings but in all fairness, I didn’t bring with me a scale to measure whether I was actually getting the amount of wings I ordered. This is another unexpected change in practice that was discovered at this restaurant. Although it may seem trivial, another negative aspect was the fact that chicken wings are served with packaged hand wipes to clean up after dinner. This was also discontinued.
In closing, my general impression was that the management has decided to trim corners at the customers expense and satisfaction. These flaws do not reflect what I would consider to be good business practice except for the owner who is seeking to expand his profit margin. There was no price reduction to reflect the reduction in the items served with the meal. The price is the same as it always was. Although the food was exceptionally good, these changes have resulted in much...
Read moreThe pizza was good and the place was pretty nice, but the service was terrible. we ordered a pizza and as soon as we got it I asked our waiter for the bill. She said she will bring it on her way back. We played a few games of pool while we waited for the bill. The waiter came by a few time and asked if we needed anything else. I asked for the bill for our pizza again and se said she will go get it. After about 30 min we still didn't have the bill. We walked up to the bar and explained the situation. We were ready to leave and wanted our bill. The bar tender said " there's nothing I can do, go talk to your waiter." We went to go ask the waiter for the bill again. She was talking to one of her co workers next to the bar. I stood there for a few min waiting for her to finish her conversation so I could ask her for our bill. She didn't even acknowledge me when I tried to get her attention. This was one of the worst experiences I have ever had. I should not have to hunt for my bill to pay...
