If you aren't paying cash, check the charge on your credit card used for purchase. We had a $50.40 order three days ago. Following day $100.40 was the amount taken from my account. (We had given gratuity in cash. There was a line through tip on sales receipt. There was no additional amount to add on.)
I immediately called the restaurant. Before I gave the total overcharged, the cashier (Who was the same who took original order) began apologizing. At first I thought she had caught the mistake herself since she knew the overdraft situation. Then she asked if I could show up yesterday to the store, in the evening to be reimbursed.
A couple red flags popped up this wasn't a mistake. Odd timing, in evening after lunch/dinner rush hours set for pick up. No automatic return to my card, especially when she discovered her error day before. I was expecting a complimentary meal or something from owner for my troubles. Instead the same worker leaped to tip box when I arrived. She had been collecting fives and ones however long to give me. I ended up with 20 $1 bills and a bunch of $5's.
I've never ever had a return made in cash. Always a return to card. I can't phantom why a tip jar would be raided instead of owner providing refund.
Everyone is scamming these days. Be careful. Double check your payment method...
Read moreThis used to be one of my favorite restaurants in town. I noticed over the last month (and I eat here more than once a week) that the black beans were hard like they weren't cooked long enough… I wrote it off the first time and note to self the second time and the third time was too busy to say anything and then today I had time to sit and eat and I said something to the counter staff and she said, "I know." She acknowledged that the staff and cooks know the beans are hard and that they have received other complaints about it and she explained they have switched from the kind they were using to a new brand. When asked why they don't revert to the original ones that cooked all the way through she said "the owner doesn't want to." . As good as any other items on the menu might be I refuse to eat at a restaurant in which the owner knows that something isn't working, refuses to fix it and expects his staff to perpetually explain or excuse food that is not prepared adequately. I'm done spending my hard-earned money on food that a restaurant doesn't care enough about to serve in a way that makes people actually want to eat it. That tells me all I need to know about what they think of their clientele and it's...
Read moreAtmosphere – 5 stars Xalos has a really cool vibe. The space is super clean, nicely decorated, and well laid out with plenty of tables. Soft Mexican music played in the background, creating a chill and welcoming atmosphere. Easily one of the nicer fast-casual spots we visited in Anchorage.
Service – 4 stars The staff was very friendly and helpful throughout our visit. There was a bit of a language barrier at times, but that’s no complaint—just something on my end. Overall, they made the experience pleasant and smooth.
Food – 4 stars I got the fajita chicken burrito, and it was huge. Very filling and made with quality ingredients—tender chicken, flavorful rice, beans, and peppers. It came with chips and your choice of salsa. We also tried the chipotle burrito, which was equally impressive. Both were fresh, well-seasoned, and clearly made with care.
Overall – 4 out of 5 stars Xalos may be a local chain, but it rivals or even beats bigger national brands. We’re from the East Coast and honestly wish we had something like this back home. It’s like Chipotle—but better. This would absolutely be a regular go-to if it were...
