I've been frequenting this local spot for the last two months or so. I always had a good experience but when I went there after a long day at work one Saturday evening, things were a little different.
Firstly, it was homecoming weekend, so the place was semi-packed (at least it was during my late-afternoon/early evening visit), however, the regular routine of just walking into the restaurant to place my order, pay and wait, was disrupted and I had to walk outside to a table and place my order for a fried shrimp "snack" (snicker). With music blasting all around us, I had to "speak a little louder" so the "old folks" could hear me bellow-out my order. They still need assistance, so they beckoned for one of the managers for help.
This young man made an unwarranted snide remark in regards to the matter of the "confusion" (snicker) between myself ordering the fried shrimp "snack", which is normally twelve shrimp with fries, and having the "old folks" place an order for two 6 pc. "snacks". I didn't mind that; my quarrel is with the manager's coy remark, "6 and 6 is twelve, right..."
It might seem petty to some, but I do believe that no customer should be talked to in such a manner. Be "busy" (snicker) is no excuse for such treatment, especially when I'm paying nearly $20 for a "snack" (snicker), and instead, I'm getting insulted by Southwest Georgia's take on "Fat Albert".
Myself and this "manager" later on had a short talk over the phone. He was reluctantly apologetic, however, real quick to state that the work environment is family-oriented and fun--and understandably so--yet, one should exercise caution whenever you're "joking around" (snicker) with people [read: customers] when you're...
Read moreI'll start with the food since I like to start with the least distasteful thing first. The food was very tasty. But it was fairly greasy and very spicy, even though we asked for mild. Now, for the reason this review is 1 star. The staff, particularly the cashier who took our order, looked and acted like she would rather be anywhere else. The placed looked and felt absolutely disgusting. It looked dirty, and had the very clear appearance it had not been cleaned and sanitized in a VERY long time. The floor, and even the carpet by the cashier was very sticky with something that was spilled and allowed to sit and dry. It was so bad, that when I lifted my foot, the carpet came up with it. We went to eat in their outdoor eating area and they brought our food out. The ground was just as dirty looking and the tables looked like they had a dirty layer of congealed oil. I don't even want to imagine how dirty and disgusting the kitchen looked. I would not recommend this place and we will...
Read moreWe thought the servings were very generous I had to meals out of my catfish (pictured) and they were prepared like I cook them at home. My wife’s grouper was on the strong side as if it could have been a little fresher. The young woman doing everything but the cooking was over whelmed but she kept everyone happy and everything under control while retaining a jovial demeanor the entire time. It was our first time there, it certainly will not be our last time there however. We have heard over and over how expensive it is; we found it very reasonable in the area of value for dollar spent. Great place, great food, real old south fish house vibe you just don’t find anymore. That means making do with ceiling fans in the dining area like when I was growing up. Nostalgia by the bucket full. You order in the market and they bring it out to you in the eating area. It is the kind of place you would not be really surprised to run into Jimmy Buffet. Well, that is if he...
