Let's talk about the Albany Cafe that we all once loved that has now been taken over by a new owner. A new owner that forgot to lock a door at closing time and instead of greeting us in the doorway to let us know this information, the owner herself guarded the doorway acting strange upon our entrance (at this time we were clueless it was even their closing time) and instead of being informed of the hours of operation we were given very unwelcoming feelings upon entering the very opened door. Once we seated ourselves, we were not given menus, "Mammie" pulled up a chair to our table of joined families and told us that "she needed to speak to the adults" as if we were about to get some type of lecture. She still, instead of informing us that the restaurant was closed... listed multiple menu items that they were "sold out of" and said "so I don't know what you are planning to order but what do you want?" this was about a couple minutes into us even sitting down... and again... still no menus. Confused I responded that I don't think any of us knew what we wanted, especially considering we had multiple young kids with us. Someone with me mentioned that we didn't yet receive menus. Feeling very unwelcomed and like the owner was trying to get us to leave (still not being informed of their hours) It finally registered to check online ourselves to look at their hours... closing time was supposed to be 7pm and we were sitting in there at 7:30pm. We apologized and said we didn't know that it was past closing and that we would go somewhere else. Mind you, Mammie was sitting at a seat next to our table after handing out a couple menus waiting for us to spit out orders to her so that she could get them in as soon as possible. Once we stated we realized they were closed, Mammie mentioned that she had no idea how we even got inside, seeming very agitated that we did. The whole encounter was extremely unwelcoming and uncomfortable and could have been avoided if instead of guarding a door we were just informed on the circumstances of someone forgetting to lock a door. Needless to say, we went somewhere else, and I will not be returning my...

“The Gem of Appalachian Hwy - OH32/Rt50E”
Wife and I was just getting back from a 800 mile LaborDay Weekend Roadtrip, we came thru CincinnatiOH and onto Appalachian Hwy which was a perfect traveling scenic highway to travel toward AthensOH. Wright before AlbanyOH we started getting a little hungry and it was about Lunch Time, so my Wife started researching Google Maps for place to stop at to have a bite to eat Google Maps pin pointed in on Mammie’s Country Kitchen which she stated im not positive but i believe this may be a Ole Elem. Schl Cafeteria, we was both little excited to head back to school after 40yrs (lol). Once arrived to location sure enough it was a Ole Schl Cafteria, just awesome!!, we entered thru doors and it was just as nothing had been changed (Step back n Time) seen the walls of lockers and walls. We entered thru the doorway of Cafeteria / Mammie’s Country Kitchen and was met by the Hostess/Waitress she was so very nice with a great appearance and attitude. She took our orders which was (2- Hamburgers with each Crinkle Fries & our desserts was a Pie each) the food was cooked to perfection and brought out to our table within 10–15minutes it all tasted Delicious and it the Spot just what we needed to finish out our travel. While setting there waiting for our orders to be brought out to our tables gave us time to look around at the Cafeteria which had the looking of a Ole Schl Cafeteria that had the Chalkboard, Old Seats and etc, defiantly do not change a thing here its perfect for us all ole timers. This is a Restaurant you do not want to pass up defiantly make a stop here, we defiantly plan stopping here when we are headed back west / east...
Read moreOur waitress, though stressed and the only person out front, was lovely and never lost her cool. The food, however, was absolutely terrible. No seasoning on any of the hash browns or home fries. The hash browns just tasted like the greasy grill they were cooked on. Pancakes were huge but a premade batter that was so salty, we couldn’t eat them. All the previous positive reviews from over a year ago had to be when they had a different cook. Felt bad for the waitress but this place shouldn’t even be in business. Zero...
