We started dining here nearly 10 years. It was one of our favorite places from 2014 to 2019. It was always packed, very lively and the food and atmosphere were excellent! We stopped in recently, we were very excited to return! Sadly, our experience was nothing like it was in the past. It started with the waitresses less than welcoming approach, which was more of a "tell me what you want, so we can get this started and finished approach." We ordered 2 coffees, she replies discouragingly with "it's instant, do you still want it?!" We reply yes, when did it change? She says, it's always been instant! No, not when Jesse was there. It was a fresh pot and you didn't have to ask or pay for a refill. Our lunch comes, see photo. Folks...this is not true authentic Mexican shredded chicken enchiladas. This is boiled chicken rolled up in a tough tortilla with a sour tasting sauce and bland. I was concerned to eat it and Gordon Ramsay 24 Hour episodes were playing in the back of my head. The restaurant had maybe 3 booths filled, including ours. It was prime lunch time hours. No students to be found. Maybe 5 dining adults. One rude waitress. The enchiladas and rice were undoubtedly microwaved. We are told new cooks and La Casa has previously shuttered. I can sadly see why. Old food, not tasty, abrasive service. It was nothing like we experienced in the past. We were tempted to leave during lunch. I think the first major change came when Jesse left. He was the heart of La Casa!!! He ran the restaurant and managed the employees and interacted with the guests like it was his own restaurant. Sadly, it is all gone. We will never return. I don't know how they are still open and the health department needs to check their kitchen practices and dates on food, storage and handling. RIP to the original La Casa...
Read morePerfect opportunity to take a break from the chain restaurants.
After four-days into our road trip we were completely tired of chain restaurants and looking for a local, family-owned, real food meal. However we were on a tight timeline so it still needed to be not far off I-94, close to fuel, with a place to walk the dog and clean washrooms etc. - La Casa Mexicana was perfect. Don't let the old sign outside turn you off. Inside you’ll find friendly staff, quick service and great food. We'd barely sat down before the chips and salsa arrived. We had the enchilada and taco with beans and rice plus the quesadilla lunch special. Highly recommend getting the quesadilla with chicken, beef and shrimp. It all was delicious but the shrimp was over the top perfectly cooked. The guacamole was fresh and chunky with tomatoes and onions. Delicious!! There was a family of 8 at the next table and the kids were happily eating away. They had something for everyone. We were in and out in 25 minutes. Will definitely stop...
Read moreNever eaten here before. We had terrible service from the time we walked in, did not even get menus before server tried to take our order. There was only 4 tables of people at the time we were there, and food took well over 20 minutes to come out. Server proceeded to spill cheese sauce all over my wife. The food was the most bland tasteless Mexican food I have ever had. My wife ordered an enchilada and could barely cut it even with a knife, and the sauce was abysmal. After we finished eating we sat there for another 20 minutes waiting for the bill. We finally had to stand near the cash register to get the servers attention to get her to bring the bill. Long story short don’t waste your time or money. If it was an option I would have gave 0 stars. 3-30-2023/ Quick update, just reviewed my credit card statement and this sorry excuse for a restaurant added a $5 tip to my credit card that I did not put on there. Please save your time and money. BBB is...
