Absolutely loved the Mole!!! This was a very nostalgic meal for me. Starting with the complimentary house-made potato chips, which I topped with Valentina Hot Sauce. It took me back to my childhood. I ordered the Chicken with Spicy Mole plate and the Mole sauce was everything I hoped it would be. I could taste the chocolate and spices and the spice level was a 4/5. Very spicy! In a good way. The plate came with rice and beans but neither did anything for me (luckily there was an abundance of Mole sauce so I just mixed everything together and it was better). The rice is white rice with vegetables and I like my rice mexican style, simmered in the Tomato Stock and finished with Cilantro. Maybe this is how people eat rice in Oaxaca? Idk. The beans were nothing special. Personally, I would prefer some other dishes offered with the Mole. Like an Empanada filled with Chicken Mola and drizzled with an Avocado Crema. Or a Tostada with Chicken Mole with Pickled Onions and Queso Fresco on top. The place was very lively and many customers ordered the Quesabirria tacos and the Pizza. Both looked and smelled good. I'm sure they taste delicious. I put a 3 for the service because it was good, not great. I tried to engage the waiter in small talk and some history about the restaurant, but he didn't feel like having a simple conversation. Just wanted to do his job and move along. I mentioned it was my first time and was hoping for a little more effort from the service standpoint. All in all, a great meal highlited by the Mole and Complimentary Chips. Will come back to try the enchiladas and I would love to see how they make the sauce, I think my own mother would be impressed with the Mole. Sorry no pictures!
PS. No Alcohol sold here for my fellow alcoholics....
Read moreMy partner and I were in New Mexico for her uncle's funeral for a couple days. We were going to eat out once during our brief visit. Saw this was close, well reviewed and coming from Texas was hoping it would be less "west mex."
So we got there an hour before they closed and they had a lot of the chairs up and were in the process of cleaning. Despite that the gentleman cleaning asked if we if we were dining or carrying out. We opted to carry out because we didn't want to keep anyone there late.
The same guy cleaning the dining space took our order. He was fantastic. Patient, asking if it was our first visit which is nice. Even asked about food allergies. We asked for his recommendations, which we both tried. He even brought out chips with multiple moles for us to try. Great service. I wish I had written his name down to give him a shout out.
So she got the chicken mole plate. It was flavorful, the beans and rice were even decent. But the chicken and mole was fantastic. Good flavor, the spicy has a light but noticeable heat. I got the Enchiladas Verde due to it being stuffed with brisket and the green sauce being made in house. Let me tell you, that sauce is delicious. I added hot sauce once home but the first few bites I had with zero added and was delicious. I wish there was like 25% more meat BUT regardless I really enjoyed the dish. Much better than the Tex Mex I'm used to. I got to try both flour and corn tortillas and both were good.
My reference point comes from Texas but I loved my experience here. The service is topnotch and the food is dang good. The dining space looks average but that bothered me 0%. I was there for the food and enjoying it with someone. Got...
Read moreStopped her to try this place out and there was quite a few people sitting at the tables waiting for their orders. I decided to stay because I wanted to give it a try. We ordered the PizzaBrirria which they advised feeds 2 people and costs around $18.00. We also ordered 1 Buche and 1 Barbacoa taco and a Torta (unsure of meat inside). Anyhow we placed our order to go and they ask you to wait outside and they will call you. (They ask your phone # and put on tour ticket) Well we ended up having to wait over an hour. We started getting frustrated after an hour and 5min so we went in to inquire where our food was and they advised they had just finished our order. Upon taking it to the car I decided to check and make sure it was complete before we drove off. Good thing I did because they did not include any salsas for the tacos or the Torta so we had to go back in to request. Didn't figure we would have to ask for Chile or salsa being that it is a Mexican restaurant it should be a given. So as far as taste the PizzaBrirria was really good BUT the consume that accompanies it was really small and did not last for the entirety of the pizza (see pic) it was only about 8oz. That was a bummer! The tacos, well they literally were plain, no cilantro or onion, just meat and corn tortilla another disappointment. The Torta was delicious, now this I would order again and recommend. All in all the wait was too long and the food was mediocre, salsas had no flavor or heat. I won't be coming here again, had too...
