I was up on the north side meeting some clients and it was getting closed to lunch time. Based on Yelp search, this is one of the restaurants that has 3 stars or higher and based on the reviews, the portions are good and the price is low. I like the combinations of those two in these tough economic times. When you first pull out to the restaurant, you know the building is old and the decorations may seem like a day care center with all the cartoony farm animals on the side of the building. I already know this isn't fancy dining and it was cute, in a way. The menu is simple, you can choose 1 entree and 1 side, or 2 sides, or 3 sides or whatever combinations you want. I am big country fried steak guy so I ordered that with white gravy and 2 sides of vegetables (mixed veggies and corn). You will pay first and you can get your drinks here. If you order fountain drinks, you will get a colored wood clip that the server will take away to know you have ordered fountain drinks.
There's a range of size of seating in this restaurant, for big and small crowd. As soon as I sat down, the server drop by and ask what I would like to drink, I took a look at their soda dispenser and ordered the root beer. She came back promptly with the drink along with a bread basket with your roll and corn bread. On the table, there's already condiments of all kind, especially hot sauces.
The food is definitely averagely good, you definitely get your money worth. The roll and the corn bread are a bit dry but hey, it's free bread. Again, the server is fast and refilled my drink without needing to ask and still remembered that I had root beer. She also did ask if...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreUpdate: I gave this place a break for about a year after hearing disturbing stories from the staff on my last visit there. It's a challenge coming here because of their hours. They are only open until 3 and they are closed on the weekends, so if you have a job, it's hard to make it here. Today, on my day off, I drove an hour and twenty minutes in the hopes of getting a stuffed pork chop. I arrived at 1 pm and they told me they were out of pork chops. I always get the meatloaf and wanted something different, but I was willing to settle for the meatloaf. Well, they were out of that too. So, I said ok I'll have the oxtails. Well, surprise surprise they were out of oxtails as well. They had some "gumbo" that looked like canned dog food and that was it. So I left after wasting almost 3 hours of travel time round trip. I have watched this business rapidly decline over the years and it's sad. Not only do they treat their staff like trash, they apparently can't run a business properly since they run out of food. Maybe they need to reach out for help before they end up going out of business. Maybe that would be a good thing at this point. Bottom line.... DO NOT GO HERE unless you want to be disappointed or like dog food.
Original review: I used to love this place, however, the last time I was there all the server did was complain about how horrible the owner is and how badly they treat the employees. I was literally horrified by the stories the employees were telling me. I was so disappointed to hear this and haven't returned, nor will I. I recommend that you don't either. Patronize places that know how to treat their employees...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI donāt see what everyone is talking about, when they say this place has great home made food. Uhmm, I gave this place 2 chances since it is literally 2 minutes away from my job. The first time I thought maybe they just didnāt prepare it well. My first time trying Momās, I ordered a bacon cheeseburger (I figured it would be hard to screw up a burger; WRONG) the meat patty was clearly frozen prior to being prepared as it was very dry and the lack of flavor certainly did not help either. Fat forward a couple of weeks, I was craving country fried steak, so I figured maybe they will redeem themselves, because after all, they are a country kitchen, right? Ordered my food, only to stare at a plate with my country fried steak made from the same frozen patty that the burger was made from, which overall also lacked flavor. The gravy, which I was hoping to save the meal, also met me with an overwhelming lack of flavor. Just overall disappointed with the food from this establishment, which is unfortunate because I love country dishes and itās so close to my job. But Iād rather drive the Extra distance and go to Angieās Country kitchen, which is just down the road, and you get your moneys worth with the amazing flavors of their freshly prepared food.
Edit: I definitely wrote the review on the right restaurant. Which I clearly stated I WOULD MUCH RATHER drive the distance and go out of my way to drive to Angies to get better food. I work off of pine timbers which is definitely closer to Moms. Had to clarify, in case it was not clear in the...
