This place is the real deal!!
If you need a change up from the usual, local and limited ethnic fare….. you need to visit Taste of Indian Cuisine.
In my opinion the food is literally like going to India and buying dinner. This is the true taste and the menu is vast.
Me, being more a shepherd than a goat herder, chose to buy the Mango Lamb Special as the first ever dish I ever bought from them.
Along with that I ordered a wonderful flat bread called Naan. Which tasted great and complimented the meal well.
Even though this was a take out order, this would be a great place to dine in. When I picked up my order I did see what looked like a young couple on a date meal. This would be the perfect place for that.
Now my Mango Lamb came with a huge cup of rice. I poured the rice in the bowl of lamb, mango and sauce . And every spoonful that I dug in the bowl seemed to come up with sizable chunks of tasty lamb. The mango was great as well and the spice combination very flavorful.
The taste overall was distinctly and authentically Indian.
Now I had heard somewhere that Italians really don't eat at Olive Garden and that the Chinese really don't eat at Chinese restauraunts, allegedly due to them being a caricature of the real deal.
But this isn't the case with Taste of Indian Cuisine. This is the real deal and, in my opinion, not just representative of, but actually exactly what Indian's traditionally eat……prepared & served exactly how it would be in a typical Indian household.
To be honest, this was one of the best take out meals I have ever eaten. And I would definitely go back to try their other offerings which I know will be just as good.
To buy a Taste of Indian Cuisine lunch or dinner is not just merely purchasing a meal…… but I consider it an authentic international experience altogether.
If you ever saw one of those professionally & highly produced YouTube bloggers that go around the world to try different foods, know that this place provides the patron exactly that without having to leave town.
Simply put they have brought the Taste to the ‘Toona!
Do you really can't go wrong here no matter what you buy. This place is pure food enjoyment in a world of fast food that is filling but not really enjoyable. It is nice to have a solid alternative to turn to among all too familiar or limited...
Read moreWe are over the moon that there is an Indian restaurant in Altoona. We had the lamb vindaloo and chicken biryani. They were both extraordinarily delicious. The vindaloo was ordered mild and didn’t disappoint. It was richer in tomato than we’re used to but we like it very much. Next time we’ll be braver and try it medium. The biryani was incredible. A HUGE portion that easily could serve two and still have leftovers. It was wonderfully infused with spices and flavors so rich and subtle at the same time. We wanted mint chutney and raita but didn’t see it on the DoorDash menu so asked for the raita in the comments field of our naan and they included it. That’s excellent customer service. The portions are bigger than the former Indian restaurant in Ivyside that closed. Our only complaints are that we ordered roti and it was left off the order (or maybe the DoorDasher ate it! :)) and our garlic naan was more chewy and not puffy like we are used to. We think maybe it was a batch that didn’t properly puff. Based on all the other reviews and how unusual it was from any other naan we’ve had, it seems like maybe a fluke. We’ll try it again next time. But if it happens to just be their unique naan, then we won’t get it again but certainly wouldn’t let that stop us from eating there. It’s fantastic and we hope they grow and succeed as people discover it. No more long trips to Pittsburgh or State College to treat ourselves to one of our...
Read moreI’m really happy that this place seemed to pop out of nowhere. We’ve been desperate for Indian in Altoona! I’m hoping they increase their online/community presence. I took lots of photos because I wanted people to know that there is also a dine in option with plenty of lot and street parking! We were happy with our food but with a few notes. We got chicken tikka and Lamb vindaloo with garlic naan. Texture wise, all the food was delicious. The chicken and lamb were excellent and the rice was nice. The tikka masala was a bit sweet, but fine in the end. The vindaloo was not spicy. I understand vindaloo to be one of the spicier dishes, and it did not deliver on that front. They didn’t ask about preferred spice level, I definitely would’ve told them to kick it up a notch. Although, considering the area, their subsequent clientele, and the fact that I’m an average white guy, they have reason to be cautious. Service was excellent!!! The very moment we walked in we were greeted with enthusiasm. Skip DoorDash and call them directly to...
