I passed this place on my way to Destin. The four grills and the sign caught my attention, so I turned around. I said "This has to be some good BBQ."I pulled into the parking lot , Googled the restaurant, to read the reviews. There were some good, and some bad, as with all reviews. I observed the place, and took a few pictures as I was going in. The staff was nice and friendly. I ordered a half chicken, 2 ribs, and a brisket sandwich. They piled on the brisket, there was enough on there to make 2 sandwiches for me. She asked if I wanted it fatty or lean. I chose fatty because I didn't want it tasting too dry. I told her I was getting it to take home, and asked if she could place it in ziploc bags to put in my cooler. She did. The guy in the picture, checked me out, and placed my food into the ziploc bags. My sandwich and the ribs were wrapped, but the chicken was not. He used the same gloves he used to check out the customers, and placed my unwrapped chicken in the ziploc bag. That's not sanitary at all.The food was ok! Just ok, nothing to brag about, or to make me want to go back for more. The chicked had too much rubbed on it. The inside of the chicken tasted like it was seasoned with old bay seasoning. It was also pink on the inside. The sandwich was ok, once the sauce was added. There was a light smoke taste to them all. I can't say I'll be back when I'm back in the area. UPDATE!!!! I tried this place one more time and my last time. I got the brisket sandwich. I asked for the fatty brisket sandwich because brisket is dry. I took a bite and could hardly swallow, it was so dry. I took another bite and it was dry. I pulled the bread off and no fat was on the sandwich. It was hard to swallow. I removed some of the meat from the sandwich to see if that would help. It didn't, so I went back in, as I was dining there, and the young lady apologized. She made me another sandwich, and brought it out to me. It wasn't any better. I ended up throwing both sandwiches away. On a good day, I hate a side of Mac n cheese and it was DELICIOUS!!! It was the best I've had in a long time. I've tried to like this place, but it's a...
Read moreGreat sign when you see FOUR huge offset smoking rigs outside, see the wood (oak), and smell the smoke. Counter service spot here. Staff a bit chaotic-may have been some newbies. Oddly asked to order sides first. Not the norm in our experience. We chose coleslaw and potato salad with a cup Brunswick Stew. Friday and Saturday here they offer smoked beef ribs so being Friday that’s what I chose as they are a favorite of mine. $27 per pound DW chose a half rack of pork spareribs. Both meats came out looking beautiful. The beef shown a lovely pink smoke ring and a nice crusty bark. Just a perfect meat to fat ratio. Pork ribs shared these features and came off the bone with a gentle tug. Bark leaned heavily on the use of black pepper, enough so that some may be put off. Three sauces available on the table-Carolina Mustard, Spicy, and Sweet & Smoky. The sweet/smoky was a great compliment to both meats. The one quite surprising thing with both meats we were served on our visit, and I could be wrong here, but it was pretty clear that the silver skin on the ribs had not been removed before smoking. The wife seemed unfazed by this but for the beef it created a bit of a problem when trying to use a plastic knife to cut it after it fell off the bone. We haven’t encountered this in any other BBQ spot I can recollect. Slaw suffered from a combo of being overdressed and a noticeably heavy hand with the celery seed. We didn’t finish this. The potato salad was delicious, just exactly what I like-mustard mayo hard cooked egg and red skin potatoes with a hint of pepper. The Brunswick had good flavor and the brisket chunks were tender but in my opinion this suffered from being more on the soup side than a thicker stew side as I’ve encountered at elsewhere. Missed out on trying the banana pudding as they had run out. Solid B+ with a couple of misses. With tax...
Read moreWhen you venture into Back Beach BBQ in PCB, you are greeted by the mouthwatering aroma of slow-cooked meats that promises a delightful BBQ experience. As far as portion sizes go, the pulled pork and brisket sandwiches certainly deliver, generously filled and perfect for a hearty meal.
While the brisket was good, it was, however, a tad on the dry side. It was still delicious but fell a bit short of the absolute best we've tasted. Another point to note, for those seeking a BBQ adventure through multiple meats, is that Back Beach BBQ doesn't offer a dedicated sampler plate. This means if you're looking to try a variety, you'll be paying a per-pound price, which can add up. A reasonably priced sampler combo would be a welcome addition to their menu.
Their homemade sausage, while filling, was a tad bland in flavor. However, the star of the show, without a doubt, were the beef ribs (available only on Fridays and Saturdays). They were everything you look for in a beef shank rib - juicy, full-flavored, and incredibly tender. Truly a weekend treat not to be missed!
Back Beach BBQ also offers a sweet respite from the heat with its deeply air-conditioned interior dining area. A great spot to unwind, escape the heat, and indulge in some finger-licking BBQ.
A particular highlight was their sweet BBQ sauce. Generously offered in takeout cups, it was a fantastic accompaniment to the meal and a great touch to take a bit of the Back Beach BBQ experience home!
While we deducted a star, don't let this deter you from visiting. Back Beach BBQ is indeed a good spot to enjoy some tasty BBQ. While it might not be the absolute best BBQ you've ever had, it delivers a satisfying meal that'll leave you feeling full and content. Just make sure to head there on a Friday or Saturday to try those...
