Wienerschnitzel — Restaurant in Amarillo

Once upon a time, a long, long time ago (when Nixon was president), I was a huge fan of Der Wienerschnitzel. OK, their hot dogs are bad for you but at least,back then, they were tasty and more or less digestible. I use to frequent this location after school. I would have 6 of their chili dogs and a milkshake (and despite my horrendous diet, I was rail thin).

Recently, as we were driving through Amarillo, my kids announced that they were hungry and interested in lunch. I remembered the Der Wienerschitzel located at the corner of Western & Olsen and decided to treat my kids to the hot dogs I remembered from my youth.

That was an epically bad choice!

Der Wienerschitzel’s hot dogs are still bad for you but they are no longer tasty or even particularly digestible. I only ordered two chili dogs for myself and only managed to eat about 3/4 of one of them. My kids each got one chili dog but neither of them finished it. Both of them expressed incredulity that I could have ever enjoyed these abominations.

I explained that Der Wienerschitzel hot dogs were really good in the late 1960s.

I doubt if either of my kids believed me.

Literally the worst! Grandson asked to come here. He asked for a hamburger, ketchup only with 2 patties. That's what we ordered in the drive thru. It took the clerk a ridiculously long time to input it before we could order fries. Everything we said, he asked to be repeated. We get to the window and have a cheeseburger. We did not order a cheeseburger, and as far as my grandson is concerned, this make the meal inedible. When we handed it back at the window, the clerk was rude and acted like we had done something wrong. He finally goes to get a new burger. He brings the new burger out and it only has 1 patty, instead of 2. Then, when we try to notify them, someone else comes to the window and says what's wrong now. Then, the clerk proceeds to argue about what we ordered. This is a very standard order for my grandson. We know what we order. The guy is just looking at us as if we're going to just go away without our food. I finally have to ask if they're going to make it or not. He says we'll have to wait on patties. 6 minutes later, they bring us a double patty burger WITH cheese!!! We finally demanded a...

Had to pick up a doordash order a few hours ago. The lady handed me a small bag and closed the window, without asking me the order name or anything. It wasn't even the doordash order, it was the person behind us food, so they let us touch someone's food, take it without verification or paying, and slammed the window every time. Finally got the right order, but they forgot the drinks and rolled her eyes as she slammed the window again. I don't even eat here but if anyone does or orders late at night, don't.
