Quarry Cafe — Restaurant in Amherst

The good: There was a nice dolphin wind chime inside. The waitress was nice. The bad: Before we even entered the restaurant, we read the following note: No public restrooms, for customers only. That gave me the impression that this was a very unfriendly place but we gave it a try anyway. The place was filthy. The floors appeared as though they hadn't been swept in weeks. The windowsill was dirty. The lady's room was gross with holes in the wall and a dirty floor. There was no soap, but there was hand sanitizer. The worst: The food was terrible. I ordered one of their breakfast specials: two eggs, bacon/ sausage, home fries, one biscuit and sausage gravy. I also ordered a side of rye toast. My husband ordered a turkey club with french fries. The best: The rye toast was good. My eggs were prepared well. The bad: Most everything else tasked like it was frozen and simply warmed up. The bacon had a funny flavor and so did the potatoes. There was no flavor to the sausage gravy at all; there wasn't enough salt or pepper to give it flavor. My husband's sandwich had very little flavor and his french fries were clearly frozen and over cooked. We will not be returning. First, let me be perfectly clear I only gave one star because it wouldn’t let me go any further. If given an option to give no stars I would’ve done that the food for one was very very horrible ordered a side of bacon, which was so stiff and hard food came out cold, and we had to wait a very very long time even though we were the only customers in the entire restaurant waitress can be heard, talking gossip, very very loud and very, very unprofessional. I would never ever recommend this establishment to my worst enemy the place, should be shut down and closed immediately. Long story short after getting my receipt being a person who’s worked in service industry I still left a three dollar tip very very unhappy couple days later I check my account on my phone app and I noticed that my three dollar tip was changed to a nine dollar tip by someone in that establishment, I wanted to mention something to authorities or something of that nature but it’s only a six dollar charge so I didn’t want to spend my energy on that will just leave this horrible review for the horrible establishment. Right now we are sitting here waiting for our breakfast. I'm able to partially write this review since I have the time. I could be eating but, well we're waiting. While sitting here, the place needs a makeover. Two ladies trying to serve and clean dishes at the same time. That apparently includes washing dishes. Which allows me to point out the large pile of dirty dishes sitting on the counter. Tables partially cleaned because the server had to go help elsewhere. I'm now on my second cup of coffee, still no breakfast. 30 minutes later, time for breakfast. So the food was decent. No complaints on that. However, the lady washing dishes served us our food.
