I had a great experience here!
We arrived just as they were opening, despite the line, we were at our table inside 10 minutes. Thier menu is not overwhelming, but is still comprehensive, offering poultry, steak, fish or seafood and a wide variety of appetizers. They have a full bar as well as southern style tea that was spot on, not too sweet like some restaurants. Service was spectacular, our waitress was able to remember everything about our order without a pad.
The kitchen staff also did a great job, my steak came out perfect, just past the point at which a good vet could bring it back to life, and my wife's was just as accurately cooked, both topped with butter melting in front of our eyes. I had no reason to reach for the Heintz 57 or A1 to eat my steak. The sides were just what we expected, not topped with fu fu stuff, just fresh wholesome ingredients. The homemade bread pudding was delicious, hot and crispy without melting the ice cream, and topped with a slightly salty caramel sauce. It reminded us of french toast, which is exactly what I expect when I order bread pudding. I might try some of the other desserts next time, but why mess with perfection.
I would suggest letting folks know what comes on the salad, the wife doesn't care for much other than lettuce, tomatoes and dressing on hers.
The pricing was really on par for the portions and experience, nor did we wait long for the waitress to tab us out.
I plan on fabricating reasons to drive to Andalusia (or wherever else I need to) so that we may eat at Big Mike's Steakhouse...
Read moreMy good friend Shayne brought me to Big Mike's to celebrate my 51st birthday. We kept it on the down low, however, because I'm not a big fan of the pomp that restaurants put into a birthday song. But that's neither here nor there...
I'd been wanting to visit a Big Mike's since I first read about them in the Alabama Neighbors magazine that is distributed by our electric co-op. In fact, I'd made plans to visit the original location when I learned that one was opening in Andalusia. It only took 6 years for me to actually go!
Our waiter brought us a basket of what appeared to be Kelley's Yeast Rolls (although they could have been anyone's) and we ordered the smoked tuna dip as an appetizer. Ever since I tried the tuna dip at the Back Porch in Destin, any of them I try elsewhere gets a comparison (whether fairly or unfairly). This was not only delicious, there was a LOT LOT LOT of it! I even ended up taking the leftovers to work for a snack for a few days!
I ordered the fillet mignon (yes, it actually had the bacon!) medium rare and a baked potato loaded, but hold the chives. Oh my goodness, y'all. When I tell you I could cut that steak with a fork, it's because I did! It was SOOOO tender and juicy and tasty. It was grilled to perfection! The baked potato was good, but just not memorable. I don't remember much about it, honestly.
When it came time for the check, I let slip it was my birthday dinner and the waiter was like, "Oh really...?" So I told him I didn't dig the singing but he brought a piece of Oreo cake anyway. It...

I now understand why the locals rave about Big Mike's Steakhouse in Andalusia, Alabama. After trying other restaurants in town, I see what makes this is a local gem that offers a solid dining experience. We indulged in a variety of dishes, each showcasing the quality and care that Big Mike’s is known for.
While the steak wasn’t cooked to the temp ordered, it was tender, and flavorful. The pork loin chops were more impressive, juicy and well-seasoned, making for a hearty and satisfying dish.
The crabcakes were not anything special. The queso dip was creamy and rich, & tweaked to the liking of our bartender suggestion. Good call. It made a solid starter that set the tone for the meal.
When it came to desserts, Big Mike's truly shined. The carrot cake was dense, with just the right amount of sweetness and a delicate balance of flavors, not overly nutty, making it a delightful treat. The salted caramel cheesecake was indulgent, with a smooth texture and a perfect blend of sweet and salty.
However, the star of the evening was the bread pudding. It stole the show with its warm, comforting flavors and a texture that was simply divine. If you’re dining at Big Mike’s, make sure to save room for this dessert – it’s an absolute must-try.
Overall, Big Mike’s offers a well-rounded dining experience with dishes that are as satisfying as they are memorable. Whether you’re a local or just passing through, this is one spot in Andalusia that...
