Ofelia's Italian Restaurant is a nice snug house turned cafe business. With its laid-back atmosphere amid its Italian decor, this could easily make for a romantic date night. The appetizers were a little deviating from any I have had the diversion of eating in any restaurant previously. A crisp cut basket of toasted garlic bread sticks made from Texas toast and served with Ofelia's freshly made marinara dipping sauce. The sauce was a terrific addition and it held the hunger pangs at bay while we were waiting for our main dish. Maybe I was starving, but only crumbs were left in the basket by the time the main dish arrived. The Shrimp Scampi was the dish of choice for this evening. This dish is served with shrimp & mushrooms sauteed in garlic and tossed with angel hair pasta. The chef added fresh basil in a white wine and lemon butter sauce, then topped it with fresh Roma tomatoes. While good for an Italian dish, it was a tad bland; even so, I did not leave any in the bowl. Maybe I fancied is bland because quite frankly, I am not a big pasta eater. I didn't have wine with this Italian dish, instead I tried Stella Artois imported beer. I found the beer to be a good combination, although I do not usually drink beer. As a desert, I tried Ofelia's chocolate drizzled cheesecake. The cheese cake was heavenly, the most divine part of the meal. This was a good thing, because they had ran out of their limited desert menu. The price range was average, and we did not leave deprived of food. The atmosphere was intimate, making it an enjoyable experience. The staff was friendly...
Read moreMy wife and I stopped in for dinner and were immediately greeted and seated but that was the end of the stellar service. We order water with lemon to start but did not receive any lemon, we asked for lemon again and were told of course but again did not receive any. When ordering food they were out of what I wanted, no big deal, so I asked for just another minute to decide on something else. 10 minutes later the server took orders from 2 additional tables and as she passed by us again I asked if she could take my order to which she said she had forgotten about me and already put my wife's order in, spaghetti and meatballs, so she was happy I said something or else I would not have had anything. After putting my order in, chicken parmesan, 50 minutes later it came out without my wife's but we were told it would be right out. Looking at my dish it was clear that it has been sitting under a heat lamp for some time as the sauce was burned onto the plate and the noodles not under sauce were also burned and stuck to the plate. Also the dish which is described with an Italian chicken breast was actually dry cubed/shredded chicken that looked and tasted like it was out of a can. About 10 minutes after my dish came out my wife's spaghetti and meatballs finally came out and it was clearly cooked fresh and was delicious! While we were both excited to visit the restaurant after seeing the pictures and amount of positive reviews after waiting over an hour for 2 pasta dishes, one of which was both not fresh as well as very burned/dry, we will not be back and would...
Read moreI have eaten at Ofelia's for several years, and I have even purchased gift certificates at Christmas time, but after my last two visits I will not be back. My husband and I ate their several weeks and purchased the shrimp scampi . It was very fishy tasting, but we didnot say anything . On Monday we decided to dine in and was greeted by the owners daughter. We always enjoyed the experience, especially when her grandson waits on us. After we finished our meal she gave us our check, and we noticed the food pirices have almost doubled. I understand with the rising cost of everything that prices will rise, but I was appalled when I saw she had charged us for tap water. I waited tables for years and have never heard of that. When I questioned her she said It was her mothers fault. I told her that she forgot my military discount, which I have received everytime I have eaten there. She told me her mother would never give a military discount to us. After serving 21 years in the military I was set back by her attitude. All she had to say is we no longer give a military discount. Again I have eaten here for years, and will no longer eat there. My suggestion to the owner is get rid of your daughter and bring back your grandson. Also if you are going to charge for tap water put it on the menu. No where on the menu or restaurant does it tell you that its a charge...
