On a recent trip down I-69 it was lunch time and we wanted to eat somewhere out of the ordinary, which led us to a not-entirely-unsubstantial drive off the expressway to Steak City Fish & Chicken....a name that confuses. It's called Steak City, but it has Fish and Chicken (please don't tell me I'm not the only one who was initially confused by this).

On our way there we speculated about what kind of place we were driving to, completely not expecting what we ended up at.

The website for Steak City Fish & Chicken is far more polished than the establishment itself. By the website and from photos online it appeared to be a brightly colored place with an awning out front. It's not like that at all now. It appears to be something that used to be a convenience store with a drive up window, which in a fashion is what it is now, but the awning has since been replaced with an add-on entry way and the entirety of the exterior is a dull, dingy grey.

The interior is half convenience store, half take-out kitchen. Above the counter is the two-panel menu. (photos included in review). There are A LOT of offerings, from burgers to nachos, tacos, wings, and fish, chicken & shrimp in a variety of combos. By default all meals come with fries (which you can opt out of for a reduced price). My wife and I both missed this when we ordered (not a big deal, actually).

Each line item is also accompanied by a 'cooking fee' which varies from 50¢ to $3.00. Not really sure what that's about, but I'm guessing it's a way to kind of build in a tip, since there is no option to tip that I saw when paying.

My wife ordered wings and I ordered chicken tacos. Since there are no seats we decided to peruse the convenience store area while we waited for our food. There is no beverage station, so any drink will have to come in can/bottle form from the coolers.

The service process was easy and, in fact, as minimal as possible. "What would you like to order?" "That'll be $xx.xx". That was it.

There are a number of coolers with mostly soft drinks, and quite a few not-entirely-stocked shelves with various non-perishables. We weren't surprised to see more than a few of the items well past their sell-by date.

About 12 minutes later and our food was ready. I grabbed a bottle of Faygo® out of a cooler and we went outside to eat in our car. There is not seating area outside, either.

At the end of the day, the food was AWESOME. My chicken tacos were very tasty, and my wife LOVED the wings. This is an odd/interesting place. The food was great, but the service and the establishment could use a...

Tried this place for the first time this week and liked it so much came back again tonight for the second time this week! :) We just moved here from Indy and the service here definitely surpasses any of the similar places there. They are very friendly, fast, and patient. I love that you can see your food being made and see the meats in the front case. It's seems to be pretty clean for one of these places, which we appreciate because many of the ones in Indy aren't very clean at all and are always in trouble with the health department lol my husband said it's the best Philly chicken he has had and I like that the cheese sticks are on the thinner side, I hate the big greasy gooey ones. The chicken tenders aren't super crunchy either which is good for the kids who don't like crunchy food too much. I also noticed they have flavored wings, something noone in Indy offered to my knowledge. Will be back...

Been there twice. Shouldn't have went back the second time! Too expensive for the poor quality of food and service that was presented, both times. I thought maybe the first time was just a fluke but the second chance wasn't even close to being better. Was told 15-20 minutes, it took 45 minutes before I received my incorrect food. Quality= poor! Service= poor! Paper thin fried catfish, hard and dried out(suppose to be tilapia), both orders wrong. WAYYYY TO EXPENSIVE for the trash I received!! The guy taking orders and money wasn't very personable. One of the cooks was loud, angry, and yelling in his own language. Not an environment I want to associate with, support, or will go back to. People give this place a good review and I don't...

Nope…. No…Nah… I’ve had this place twice now and both times my food was over cooked and not too fresh at all. If you’ve ever been to a Sharks, Dolphins, or JJ’s Fish & Chicken then you know what good chicken taste like. This is not at all edible in the least. Very rubbery texture. Please clean your establishment and maintain the parking lot better. It’s a safety hazard…

I got a Philly, tacos, and wings to share with a friend because I didn't know what to try. The portion sizes were huge. And the lady behind the counter was super friendly. It wasn't my favorite food, but it was really good at the same time.
