Pappy's Cafe & Tavern — Restaurant in Andover

I wanted to write you this about an experience my kids and grandkids experienced yesterday!!

When they entered they were not approached and when they finally sat down nobody came to get their orders.

And then this:

When I tell you all that I’m so mad right now but mostly sad!!! My 9 year old granddaughter just experienced racism so tough at a restaurant that didn’t serve them or acknowledge them in anyway, and the fact that she noticed how people were treating them and said to my son and daughter “I think this restaurant is for white’s only”

WHAT??? FOR HER TO FEEL THIS AND SAY THIS IN 2025 IN A RESTAURANT IN ANDOVER IS EXTREMELY EXTREMELY HEARTBREAKING!!!

I know racism is alive and that people deal with this everyday!! Trust me I’ve watched my kids deal with this their entire lives and my husband lives this everyday now where we’re living and we do go out in public!!! We dealt with it today in our small town at an event they had!!!!

BUT FOR ONE OF MY GRANDCHILDREN TO SAY THIS AND FEEL THIS…ESPECIALLY HER WHO IS SO LOVING AND SO ACCEPTING OF EVERYONE MAKES ME SO ANGRY BUT MORE THAN THAT IT MAKES ME SAD!!!

Now it’s my job as her grandmother to talk to her about what happened and talk through how this made her feel!!!

🥲she’s so loving and it’s so sad that she had to feel that!!! Cause trust me when she first walked in she was sending all of who she is out into that room!!! For them to make her feel that hurts me so deep inside!!! She explained it like “Grandma when we walked in the world seemed like it was moving so fast, but then everything slowed wayyyyy down!!! Omgggggggg my baby 🥲😩 Lord please wrap her and her heart in your arms and let her know and feel love, happiness, joy and above all else acceptance and never let her feel that she’s not enough or that something is wrong with her in anyway!!! Please protect the way she loves, and the way she sees the world!!! Amen

If I would’ve been with them today I would’ve made sure she knew before we walked out how the way they made her feel wasn’t ok and that they themselves are nasty ugly mean hurtful people! Would they have cared no probably not a bit!!! But I would’ve made damn sure that little girl seen her Grandma Her WHITE GRANDMA DEFEND HER AND EVERYTHING THAT MAKES HER PERFECT AND INNOCENT AND PURE!!! I just got off the phone with her and made sure she knows that the problem is them never her!!!

SO EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED IN PEOPLE!!! ESPECIALLY RACIST WHITE ADULT’S!!!

I’M SO MAD AND DISAPPOINTED THAT SHE HAD TO FEEL THIS WAY!!! And that my kids said that when they got up to leave people were laughing is outrageous!!!

You guys are lucky I live two hours away because I would be outside of your establishment with signs camped out!!!!

This is despicable behavior for your employees and the fact that you allow your customers to behave that way!!!

So I will let everyone know:

Please take your Business Somewhere else!!! Pappy’s Bar and Cafe is not the place to take your...

The staff are friendly, kind and attentive. In the winter, the door allows so much cold air in that half the restaurant is 60 degrees. The corned beef hash is perfect, nothing fancy, just corned beef, and potatoes. The hash browns are cooked to perfection.

Corned beef hash breakfast: 3.5 stars (great taste, small portion, eggs not cooked right) Portion sizes for corned beef hash and hash browns are much smaller here than other small biz restaurants. Think embers, not flameburger. (Flameburger has amazing and large hash browns)

Chicken wings: 2 stars (good portion for the price but not for quality) The chicken wings have great sauces, and they are whole wings. The wings themselves we're a tad undercooked, and under the sauce they we're bland. I'm betting they are frozen wings.

Blueberry waffle: 1.5 stars (undercooked, lackluster) The waffle was undercooked, and poorly presented. Like mom was mad but knows she has to feed you. The butter was solid and cold, and didn't have time to melt into the slightly undercooked waffle. The blueberries we're unceremoniously situated unlovingly atop a whipcreamless waffle top. The blueberries were also lacking in flavor. Canned most likely.

The waffle is a generous size but it was not delicious.

Overall the quality of food is reminiscent of a canned and boxed medley one would find in a coupon clipping budget Cub foods run.

The service was nice however. The staff are good folk and appear to get along with their regulars and each other. Which says a lot.

If you are looking for truly delicious and fresh food... Don't go here. If you are looking for someone to cook for you and to feel welcome, but you don't care about your taste buds... Hit this place up. But wear a warm outfit...

Stopped up on Sunday to meet friends for breakfast and the Vikings game. Grabbed a table to accomadate 6 people. Hardly anyone in the bar and plenty of spots. The table was dirty (a non issue for me as it obviously had been sat at by the previous patrons and I knew it would be cleaned off soon) Server Mel came to wipe down and was immediately rude and reprimanded me "you're supposed to wait until the table is cleaned off before you sit here" um ok if I don't have a problem with it Im not sure why she did. After 10-15 minutes of her not bothering to ask if I needed anything I went to the bar to grab my drink. She did however take time to grill me twice on how many guests I had coming and when they would be there insinuating that there was an issue with me holding the table. All the lowtops were empty. My friends arrived and to receive similar treatment. Very short and demanding like we were wasting her time. We eventually decided not to order and went somewhere else. I had a 10$ tab and gave her a $20. She had the nerve to ask if I needed change lol. I am a loyal patron of this establishment and stop in a few times a week. I absolutely love the food and the bartenders. Jen Sue and Trevor are all fantastic!!! They know and remember many patrons and I , by name and order, and have great customer service and conversation and banter. pappy's is luck to them! I have since talked to other customers that have also experienced similar treatment from Mel and have left unhappy as well. I am not a fan of bad reviews for small businesses but her behavior cost the establishment 6tabs this day. Luckily I know the food is great and most staff are awesome but if it was my first visit I would definitely not be...
