As with Grapes, the restaurant attached, my initial experiences at Wine Cellars of Anapolis were not good. I vowed never to go again. Friends wanted to go to Grapes and I was early so thought I would browse. They had a mini tasting going on and who can pass that up. The gentleman pouring obviously knew nothing about the wines and read from a the tasting sheet which did not answer my questions about the wines. He was there to pour and said he had never tasted the wines we were tasting. To his credit he found a lady who seemed to know much more. I have found this to be the case with their Saturday tastings as well. Generally there is one to two people with solid knowledge about the wines being poured and the others are reading from a script and not able to answer questions or give very vague responses to questions. Read moreThink of a being in a friend’s huge wine cellar. They are offering you tastes of almost anything you want, with wonderful stories about the taste and the wine maker’s history. A group of friends (everyone is a friend) meet there Saturdays for some time to talk about wines.
Vintners and distributors come by on Saturday to share their wines as well.
A great restaurant is there if you are hungry and a cheese shop on the other that sells warm baguettes.
It does get much better.
Every Saturday I buy a warm baguette first and then roam the wine tasting. When we have tasted everything, my wife and I go to Grapes for an early dinner/late last lunch.
