Having driven by Scuba's more than I can count, my bride and I opted to have dinner on a day I craved pizza, burgers, and wings. Parking was plentiful provided by the street or parking lot. Inside, we found the ambiance to be pleasant and comfortable. Scuba's was obviously occupied by neighborhood locals that may have walked from their domicile as well as people such as myself, who drove about 5 miles or more. Either way, we found a comfortable table in front of one of the round, porthole windows.
We were promptly provided with menus by a pleasant staff member and our drink order was taken. A cocktail and beer later and we were savoring our excellent meals. My bride opted for the Gourmet steak sandwich with a side of sweet potato fries while I delighted my tastebuds with the black and blue burger. Did I mention I had a craving for wings too?
Well, we decided to order two dozen wings in two different flavors knowing we would take them home. We each tasted a wing but packed them up for home to be eaten the following day. (FYI: Don't order a takeout in addition to your meal as you are charged extra. Instead, wait until the end of your meal and ask for a container. WHY?) The wings tasted good but I found them to be small and consisted mostly of flat wingettes and very few of the meatier drumettes. The extra takeout cost and the small wings were my primary, or only, reason for reducing the rating to 4 stars.
While I was famished when I arrived, I literally could not finish one last bite of my burger. I was stuffed! Yes, I had two beers and one or two (small) wings, but still I have never left any part of a burger behind, until now. It was all very good.
Kudos to the staff who did an excellent job serving us. They were top notch and deserved the 20+% tip. A little extra to cover the cost of the takeout container. They did a great job...
Read moreAbsolutely horrible. I went here for my birthday with my family. A simple, small party of 6. One of which included a one year old child. No booster seat available. I understand it was 7:00 Saturday September 28th. Octoberfest was going on, on college Ave. I planned ahead and called them, they stated that it was a 50 minute wait time. That was absolutely no problem and completely understandable. in the 180 minutes (2.5 hours total) we were served one round of drinks and one app. No one checked on us otherwise. It was my birthday. I didn't expect any special treatment by no means, but witnessing 3 other parties getting seated, ordered, food delivered AND LEAVING after us, (I witnessed this with my own eyes from the seated area I had) and we had a 1 year old. Anyone who is a parent knows how difficult it is to entertain a child for 3 hours. This was absolutely unacceptable. We called ahead, planned, and expected a wait. But after I finally was able to chase down literally anyone, oh wow our food suddenly came out, all of it, within 10 minutes. This was after a 3 hour wait and witnessing at least 12 other people coming after us, ordering, and receiving their food. Clearly they forget about you. Or don't care. Thankfully our child was a great sport. But I by no means recommend this place because of how haphazardly they will just forget you're there until you have to physically chase down someone to tell them you've been waiting around for 3 hours to order food. After we told them we were...
Read moreAlthough my quest for a local fish fry king continues I am proud to announce the I have found the prince. As the name implies Scuba’s Pourhouse is a nautical themed pub and grub. I will be exploiting this theme in the rest of my review. Most people know the difference between “Dinner” and “Diner” restaurant goers. A “dinner” wants to “get in, get fed, and get out”. A “Diner” wants to relax, enjoy the atmosphere, and make the most of their meal. I advise all those would be divers that want to test the waters at Scubas to have a diners mindset. Divers that descend and ascend too quickly get the bends. The service definitely demonstrates a nonchalant don’t worry well take care of you in a second vibe. You won't die of thirst or hunger, you will be attended to; and the food is definitely worth the wait. But be warned, there is no lifeguard on duty. If you are a needy, controlling, demanding or a time constrained swimmer you will drowned in a pool of your own angst and frustration (due to the in ability to get what you want exactly when you want it). We ordered two Haddock dishes. One was the traditional deep fried (which had a yummy seasoning reminiscent of 1970’s KFC original recipe), and the other was the Creole style bourbon dish. They were both perfectly cooked and savory. I actually preferred the bourbon st. but will revisit the other again in the future. We saw a lot of fish tacos being made and have put those at the top of our...
