Update:
Whenever we think of Shanghai food, we would come to Dong's garden. Haven't been here since the pandemic. My wife wanted to have Shanghai fried soup dumpling and we came here to order a take-out today.
The soup dumpling was so fluffy and juicy. The bottom of the bun skin was crispy that made the eating of the bun a pleasant culinary experience. I love this type of buns. When I visited Shanghai few years ago, I went out to the street and looked for the buns every morning for breakfast. Can't get enough of them.
The restaurant also provide other very authentic Shanghainese dishes here. Their famous dishes include the beef jerky mixed with pig's ear and fried tofu, pan fried rice cake with pork, wonton soup and beef noodles. Everything time I come here before the pandemic, I have to wait for a bit before got seated. They are popular.
They have a few branches throughout Southern California.
End of updates
This restaurant establishment has several branches in the San Gabriel valley and in Rowlandheights. If you like Shnaghai food, this is the place for you. The owner was a very famous shanghai opera singer and had her own albums. Opening this restaurant chain is her passion for SHANGHAI food. So it shows in their dishes. I can really tell they’d put in a lot of efforts in keeping the original taste of SHANGHAI in their food. Their 炒年糕is probably one of best in this town. The taste is very close to what I had in Shanghai. Another popular dish here is their pork chop and vegetable fried rice. The noodle dishes are very popular as well. I particularly like their beef noodle with soup. I will be back to try...
Read moreI've been going to the Rowland Heights location since 2011, and started going to this one when they opened up a few years ago. I have always enjoyed the food, they give huge portions (can add noodles to any order and share) and the price is cheap for what you get.
My favorite dishes here are the dan dan noodles, beef noodles, mustard green noodles, cold plate appetizer (in particular the pig ears). I've had some of the baos before in RH but not this location. One thing I appreciate is that their spicy option is actually pretty spicy. If the really spicy option isn't enough, the extra chili oil on the side will definitely get you there!
Service has always been superb in both RH and Arcadia locations, never had any issues, and they were always accommodating. I'm always down to come here, so don't hesitate to try...
Read moreOrdered beef rolls Shanghai style, Shanghai style pan fried noodle, and Steamed Shanghai style dumplings. The beef rolls were a cold style serving, 6 rolls of pretty good size. Beef to roll ratio was good, cilantro was not overpowering, and the hoisin sauce was a good amount (not overdone). If you prefer it served cold, these are great. The noodles were plentiful and the flavor permeated the semi-thick noodles quite well. The dumplings were fine, definitely enough to hit the spot or craving but not the top pick of the meal. Not too busy for a Sunday mid-afternoon, service was...
