Tonight my partner and I had the pleasure of dining at Toni's.
And when I say tonight, I mean at 3:00 in the morning, a.k.a. the perfect time to eat at Toni's.
I was assisted by a beautiful young woman in a rainbow pattern face mask that had the appropriate amount of sequins on the front of it to be amazingly awesome yet still allow for easy communication.
I asked her what the best things on the menu were, and she said everything was good. I understand now that her statement was not in any way hyperbolic.
(Google has informed me that if I complete this review then I will be on a 3 week streak, and with the last word in that last sentence I have completed my own two review streak of using the word hyperbolic.)
I went with her recommendation and tried the biscuits and gravy. My partner and I are fiends for the stuff so I went ahead with the full order. I wish I had ordered two...
I can easily say that the gravy at Toni's is the best that I've had in the last decade. Of course I will add in that this is strictly on a restaurant basis, because at home we should all be cooking better than restaurants anyway. But I digress.
The gravy at Toni's tastes like it's actually cooked down from flour, though I can't speak to that as I didn't ask the specific process. It is very good though and the seasoning is perfect with just the notes of black pepper and none of the heat for those who have a sensitive tongue.
The gravy is liberally strewn with pieces of wonderfully browned breakfast sausage that is all homogeneously shaped and evenly distributed. It also has the flavor of having been cooked for several hours very gently, which is not easy to do with that sort of bechamel base. They absolutely nailed it at Toni's.
The biscuits were amazing too, pillowy and fall apart tender, yet still holding their shape and maintaining a nice base for that amazing gravy.
We also ordered a chili burger with onions and cheese, and it was very good too.
The chili was 50s diner style in that it was all meat and red. It was expertly spatula'd onto the bottom of the bun so that there was no mess and it was able to be served in a paper wrapper.
The buns themselves were very nice and pillowy, just like an old drive-in hamburger.
The hamburger patty was seasoned perfectly and actually pink in the middle. I was gobsmacked and pointed it out to my partner, who, upon diving in, gave a satisfied grunt and subsequent nod of approval.
On the recommendation of another regular I also got an Oreo shake. My shake looked exactly like the person before mine did, and that's kind of important when it comes to the person using the shake machine because if they're not consistent then you're not getting a good product.
Again, mine looked identical to the one before it, and it was not preloaded, so this person was doing a great job.
The shake itself was ice cream based, it melted just like a big bucket full of ice cream not like some kind of strange amalgamation of powders and formula chemicals coming out of a machine. It was a really good shake.
These folks have been here half of forever and maintain a level of quality that is hard to find.
Thank you, Toni's, I'll be back...
Read moreFound menu online and saw chicken fried steak and eggs with all the fixings for $14.99. Called them up and asked them about this for $14.99 and was told 'yes, we have that' but had to transfer me to actually place the order, and I do so. Drive down to pick it up and am charged almost $20 and I ask why, because it just didn't add up. A woman who identified herself as Karen, tells me that that was the old price and that they can't control it. I told her that I asked about the price when I called. She then replies to another employee there instead of me and as though I wasn't even there and says,'no, he didn't ask. I took the call'. I said,'no, you took the transfer after I already asked and was told YES to the chicken fried steak and eggs'. She then went on to tell me that I looked at wrong site and that wasn't the price. But she insisted that I was a liar and never called about pricing even after another employee did in fact say, 'yes, he did call and ask about the price'. So yeah, I get it that prices have gone up everywhere and on all things, unfortunately. What I don't understand, nor appreciate, is KAREN insinuating that her customers are liars even after another employee verified differently. I gave Toni's 4 of 5 stars for the 30 yrs+ I've been enjoying their food. But I am hesitant about ever going back when an omelet could run $20 each, out the door, and I may get treated horribly for ever going. It is often the experience people remember over the food. I hope they do better in the...
Read moreCame with my father (over 70) to get coffee & a snack. I explained to the Older lady Amanda the situation & that my father was coming from tge table to finish the order. The worker was impatient, rude, with a snotty attitude repeatingly questioning if I wanted to order or not. Her name is Amanda. Asked for the exact thing repeatedly & she was unable to listen to anything i was saying such as 'my father will come up now' (he was walking to the counter) and she asked me a third time if it was gonna be a pattymelt or not & if i wanted to cancel the order. I just waited in line while my crippled father sat at the table waiting for my signal to come up. Zero table service here so how is an elderly person supposed to function with such impatience & animosity coming from an employee that isn't getting her 'generic customer'. Didn't need her irritation. I expected her empathy!.. BUT didn't even get my coffee due to her rushing & impatience I said to hell with it & took care of my father. I love Toni's but this was the worst most embarrassing experience ever. This old lady should go home & pout in a rocking chair. IMO that is where her destiny currently lies. She should NOT be working with the public & I won't be bringing him back if I'm expected to deal with Amanda ever again. My advice if they are quite busy, not to take the elderly there as long as Amanda is. After this I won't bring my family either if...
