If you happen to find yourself traveling on I-49 in Missouri, Mama’s Kitchen in Archie is a MUST STOP. This place is everything you want a small town café to be: friendly, clean, and flavors that will make you think you are sitting in your grandmother’s kitchen. It was super hard to pass up the day’s special: meatloaf with mashed potatoes, steamed veggies, and dinner roll, but we opted instead for a patty melt with tots, club sandwich with vegetable of the day (steamed broccoli, cauliflower, and carrots), and a side salad with ranch dressing- all pictured. Everything was delicious. Serving sizes were more than generous. All the food was cooked perfectly and served nicely. We didn’t need more food, but couldn’t pass up the homemade desserts. We ordered butterscotch pie and chocolate chip cookies. All I can say is DO NOT LEAVE WITHOUT CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES. You WILL regret it. These things are amazing. One of the servers (who happened to be our server) makes them herself. They are… well, simply outstanding: soft, chewy, sweet with a hint of flaky salt on top. Just delightful. Our server was Allison. She didn’t just meet every expectation, she anticipated and exceeded every need. We are traveling from out of state. As I was about to finish my iced tea, I was thinking about asking if I could request to pay for another in a to go cup. Just as I was about to ask, here comes Allison saying, “I hope it’s okay I just put your refill in a To-Go cup.” I was floored! We cannot say enough about Mama’s Kitchen. Go here. Eat here. Spend your money at this local, small business gem. You will...
Read moreMy wife and I were just driving around enjoying the countryside as we moseyed our way up to Harrisonville and found ourselves in this quaint little town with grumbling stomachs. We wanted so badly to find a nice little mom and pop cafe to enjoy and thought we had when we saw the sign for Mama's Cafe. We parked and went in and there were just a few people by the front counter and three in the dining room and a sign that said "seat yourself" so we did. We sat there for 5 or 6 minutes listening to the three employees in the other room chat and giggle and then one came in and helped a guest that was already seated, walked right past us, looked at us, and didn't say word. We thought for sure she had seen us and we were about to be helped. Nope. Not a word. We were completely ignored for 5 or 6 more minutes. At almost 15 minutes total we got up and left. One woman gave me a look as we walked out that indicated confusion or maybe regret as they realized we hadn't been helped at all. But still, not one word was said as we left. I wouldn't expect this place to be in business for much longer if that's the case. I had out of town money and big tips all they had to do was serve us and I really wasn't expecting much other than a kind word, something to drink and a bite to eat. It's not that hard to quit blabbing with your buddies and...
Read moreBeen debating on stopping in for over a year. My wife and I finally made the trip with our herd of five. We were able to walk in and set down immediately. Our server came promptly and took our drink order. From there it was a bit before recieving our drinks, but when our server returned she apologized. Our cups never went empty, our appetizer of potato skins came out in a timely manner, were hot, fresh and great. When our food arrived I was impressed with my oldest plate it was the mama burger. I had the Philly and tots. I will say I think the portion sizes on my plate were lacking, leaving lots of visible plate, however the philly was good in flavor. The tots while not crunchy they were cooked well, hot and the flavor was great. My wife had the patty melt and onion rings, which they were freshly breaded. She loved the flavor of her food. My daughter said her grilled chicken sandwich was good. We will definitely make another trip. One appetizer, two kids meals, then four sandwiches with side plus drinks was only...
