My wife and I needed a little quiet time away from childcare for our granddaughters. We found Creekside. It is not a fancy resort...and thank goodness for that. Small businesses had great difficulty surviving the pandemic year, especially those in the hospitality sector. Now they struggle to find reliable help...and keep their doors open in order to serve you. More rural venues, like Creekside, face even greater challenges. So we temper our review with that understanding. Be patient, be kind, tip generously...these folks are trying their best to accommodate you as best they can... at times under very trying circumstances. The food was quite good despite the problems of limited staff. We had good meals, wait times were a little long but we were staying there so we were not inconvenienced (again, when you can't get help, your service is affected). The salads and cooked veggies were all fresh and plentiful. The entrees were good although they were out of a few things by the end of our stay. We still found other good options. Good wine list for being a bit off the beaten path. Looks like they have a great selection of craft beers too, though we did not partake. Our thanks to Craig (Asst Restaurant Mgr, Bar Manager, fill-in server, and on-call property plumbing technician), Kelsey and Brittany (hope I got all your names right)...you all made evening dinner a pleasure. The patio was fun and we did not get rained on. Valley residents...how often can you sit outside for dinner in August? To the cabins. We stayed in #6, Enchanted Forest. It was nice, small but it worked for us. As you can imagine, the pandemic threw them some financial limitations, especially in deferred maintenance. They are addressing those, funds and help permitting. Nothing that we experienced would suggest we should not return (we will come back...with friends). Thanks Holly(cabin manager), for helping make our stay enjoyable. We appreciate the challenges all of you face. We came home feeling refreshed by the quiet and friendly atmosphere. If you go, treat all the staff with respect and they will help you enjoy Zane...
Read moreWe went here on the recommendation of our hotel staff. The server told us right away that the cook is only there Thursday through Sunday. We were there on Tuesday, not sure who cooks on that day. 🤔 This place was dirty, the tables, menus, silverware were not clean. Cobwebs on the walkway into this place. Is wasn't even Halloween! We both ordered burgers. I'm accustomed to being asked how I want my burger cooked. This did not happen here. The server said all the burgers are cooked the same. 🙄 Our food came out surprisingly fast. I cut my burger in half & noted it was cooked medium/well. I was happy with my food. My friend's burger was undercooked, almost raw in places. She sent it back & asked for her burger to be cooked more, not burnt, just not so red in the middle. Big mistake! It took about 20 minutes for the server to bring the burger back, and yet we were the only table in the restaurant. In the meantime I was done eating. The server said the cook made a fresh burger, that's what took so long. She waited to see if the burger was cooked to my friend's liking, and the server definitely copped an attitude. I could see that the burger was charred on the outside but the server insisted it wasn't burnt. When my friend tried to cut the burger in half, it was so tough that she couldn't get the knife to cut it. And by this time the french fries were cold. My friend refused the food and gave it back to the server. The lack of service, cleanliness and quality of food was astounding. Cross this place off the list, definitely...
Read moreThough I am not one to leave restaurant reviews, this Tavern warrants one. We were seated at a very unlevel table, to the point at which we had to use a leather wallet as a stopper to keep a small appetizer plate from sliding "downhill" (not to mention other items like the silverware). One of the staff commented that 'everything is falling apart & nothing is getting fixed'. No heat used, leaving everyone there cold in long sleeves and pants. The waitress could not remember the daily special, having to leave twice to verify item and toppings. She left us numerous times without explanation during the ordering process, even serving another table seating after us, accidentally bringing their food to our table when it was completed. One of the two appetizers was brought out just after three of the meals; the other was never placed. She let me know my meal (the fourth) would be a couple more minutes, as it took longer to cook. With the others finishing their meals, I was finally able to find & call her over; much to her suprise, she never brought out my meal... Checked with the kitchen & revised her earlier statement; it was never put in. I was given a ham sandwich, "on the house" - ham, lettuce, & tomatoes on near stale bread (matching the overly dry Country Chicken Steak & Patty Melt in two of the other orders). You are asked to walk through, to the bar, for payment. Accurate in its entirety, a sign at the entrance states "There is no job too simple for our staff to complicate". I will...
