Last Saturday two friends and I went there after playing a round of golf while on vacation in Prescott. All three of us were stationed in Germany during the Cold War and we were craving some good schnitzel. The place is in a great location and very rustic. I thought this was going to be a great time, but was I wrong. The waitress seemed very confused. They had no drink menu and after looking at the tap handles we ordered some draught beer. The beer was delicious and nice and cold. The waitress kept switching out the paper disposable menu because they were constantly running out of items on the menu, such a Spätzle, a common German noodle used as a side dish. My two friends ordered the Jagerschnitzel which is supposed to be covered in brown mushroom gravy. My two friends were very disappointed when they were served a schnitzel with a white oily liquid on it. They told me they wished they ordered what I had, even though my entrée, “Soprano’s Schnitzel,” a lightly breaded pork cutlet covered with melted Swiss cheese and spinach, was taking very long to prepare. It may sound delicious but it was just plain awful! My entrée came about ten minutes after my friends did. After a few bites I noticed that the very thick piece of pork, which was more like boneless pork chop. It was cold in the center, and I noticed swine blood on my plate. I contacted the waitress and she apologized and seemed to agree because she said “gross.” I made it very clear that I did not want that entree and I would give the Jagerschnitzel a try. She said she would put the Jagerschnitzel order in for me, and speak to the cook. She then took my plate into the kitchen. About ten minutes later a most rude and arrogant man approached our table. I noticed he didn’t have my Jagerschnitzel in hand. He said “Hay pal, not for nothing, I cook my pork to 140 degrees and that pork was thoroughly cooked.” I explained that the pork was more like a boneless pork chop, not a pork cutlet. I also explained the between my two friends and I, in our nearly 3 years each in the U.S. Air Force in West Germany, had undoubtedly consumed over 1,000 schnitzels. I explained that we considered ourselves “Schnitzel Experts”, and that the plate he served me was NO schnitzel. He said he was the new owner/cook, and that he knew coming over to our table was a losing battle. No doubt this fellow is not fond of veterans. The waitress then gave us the bill and said that she took the Soprano’s Schnitzel off of our bill. No kidding? Did they really think I was going to pay for it? I asked about my Jagerschnitzel that I ordered and she said she knew nothing about it and didn’t hear me ask for a Jagerschnitzel. I really was surprised that the cook didn’t apologize, and provide me with a replacement [Jagerschnitzel], but I guess that is how he treats his customers, which is a shame. In the end, my friend Steve felt terrible and picked up the tab, but because of the owner/cook’s terrible conduct, he didn’t leave a tip. Hopefully the waitress will realize this isn’t a good place to work when the owner treats customers like he did, and she will quickly seek...
Read moreMy girlfriend and I arrived at the Lynx lodge around 3:45 with our dogs. As we exited our vehicle this gentleman approaches us and says if you're not eating here your vehicle will be towed. It was a quite odd statement to say. We assured the gentleman that we were coming to eat.
We find out that dinner is not served till 4pm. It's only 15 minutes Till 4. My girlfriend waits outside with the dogs as I go inside to grab a couple beers.
While inside its mass chaos at the register. I am not sure exactly what's going on. The lady at the register was having issues. The check out line was backed up into the next room. I grabbed a Michelob bottle and a Mike's hard lemonade. I asked the gentleman who was serving beer from the tap if I could come back In a few minutes when the line settles down and pay for the beers. He assured me that would be fine.
I walk outside and hand my girlfriend her beer. We start to walk down the hill and another gentleman approached us and asked If we plan on paying for those. I told him yes and explained the verbal agreement I made with the man behind the counter.
While down at the lake admiring the views. We laughed at how strange people have been acting towards us. We thought it was no big deal until we headed up towards the cabin.
As soon as we got up top, this tall slender man approaches us with a scowl on his face. In a very loud and abrasive tone he says "pay for those beers now and leave the premises, or the police will be called."
Having been threatened to have my vehicle towed, accused of stealing and now this. We have been pushed well past our limits. It's not a laughing matter.
What is your issue with us, I asked?
Again, in a loud abrasive manner he stated that my girlfriend was up there 2 weeks ago and stiffed the waitress 1 beers. (Yes 1 beer).
We drove up from Phoenix to specifically go there. She bragged about how great the place was. She and her girlfriend spent $182.22 there on food, beer and even bought two sweatshirts because it was raining. (I can provide receipts).
The situation made no sense and was handled in a very unprofessional manner. This gentleman's tantrum was not only making us uncomfortable but the other patrons. We handed the man our credit card. He charged us for the Michelob and Mike's hard lemonade and 1 beer she supposedly skipped out on. We left the place feeling extremely disappointed and upset.
My girlfriend and I are working professionals in the Phoenix area. There is always a right and a wrong way to approach a situation.
I sent an email to the owner of the Lynx Cafe prior to this review. Unfortunately, I have...
Read moreThe only thing good Lynx Lake Cafe Was the food. Our entrées were good but the appetizers love something to be desired. There was going to be a party of eight of us. My friends got there before we did and asked to be seated when the place opened my friend said that the guy she talked to was very rude and said they would not see her and her husband until the rest of the party was all here. The place was empty. And there was no seating room for them to wait, so they had to stand. We got there at four so that we could get one of the tables with View of the lake, but those two tables were already taken. The other Four picnic tables were in the sun, so I asked a waitress if we could move a picnic table. She had a look of horror on her face and said something to the effect that he would never approve that. No mention of who he was. Well, we all arrived a Short time later and opted to sit in the dining room because we didn’t want to be in the sun. We were a party of five adults and three teenagers. Two of the teenagers Didn’t see anything on the menu they liked so weren’t going to eat. I ordered the calamari appetizer, and wanted my one Granddaughter to just try it, so she took one piece but Didn’t care for it. I then ordered the Soprano Pork schnitzel, and it had Spatzle on it. I Wanted to give a taste of the spatzle to my granddaughter, about a 1 oz, and just a small bite so she could taste my schnitzel. We are not of German descent and don’t eat this kind of food and I just wanted to expose her to it. I didn’t ask for an extra plate, we had a clean appetizer plate on the table that I use to transfer the food, like Angie R’s review above, Was hit with a split plate charge of $6. When the waitress came, I told her I didn’t ask to split a plate and I didn’t ask for an extra large plate and I didn’t ask for an entrée to be split. I simply gave a sample to my granddaughter. The waitress said He, again whoever he is, would never take it off the bill. She should have gone to the manager, and he should’ve come to the table, service was so slow and that split plate charge really ticked me off. My bill for just myself and my two granddaughters was $121.78. I didn’t leave a tip at all, but decided to leave $10. We were all so terribly disappointed, the worst possible Customer Service we had ever seen. And the place only had a few customers on a Friday night when it should be jamming. Maybe they’re laundering money and don’t care or even want to please...
