1st visit because it is 18 miles one way (30 min drive). I had heard how great it is so went with friends. I was pleasantly surprised that the long line to order went so methodically, so we didn't feel like it was a long wait. Didn't realize it was a little place where you order at the counter and the place was packed. (Good sign, lol). Other comments said they got their food at the counter but when we were there, it was brought to us. Again, we didn't have to wait long after ordering which was also a surprise with as many people there. We barely had time (& would have liked more time) to check out the decorations and notice how sanitary the place looked for a little place before our meal came out. Oh, my goodness, the food!! I eat out (too) often, lived in Tucson over 40 yrs, and have eaten a LOT of Mexican food. I have been disappointed at how prices have gone up, service has gone down and lucky if food is hot. However, I have NO complaints at ANYTHING at Sammy's! What a nice change!! Service was SO friendly even though it was busy!! The food arrived all the same temperature (as it should have been but not in a lot of restaurants). I just keep thinking (& said) how in the world did a simple tostado and a side of rice taste SO GOOD and SO FRESH!!! Also, I never dreamed the side of rice would be so much as well as a heaping of the bean tostado! I don't usually like cilantro & I saw a little on it and it all tasted so fresh that I didn't find it distasteful at all; (shocking to me). I almost took some home but thought how silly to do with just 2 items (besides the tea) so I stuffed myself till I thought I'd never want to eat again! As far as the political decorations: I want to say how proud I am of these Hispanics as well as business owners who have the nerve to stand proudly for their faith as well as their country and respectfully, their political choice. (I think they met him.) Having lived in Tucson over 40 yrs, I have been engaged to a Hispanic, my best friend is married to one, and we all live & mix together in AZ. However, a certain area of town have some Hispanics that don't have the nerve to break their culture of how they have always voted. The owners of Sammy's appears to think for themselves, were kind and articulated strong family & moral values. A great business (& personal) role model. Btw, I read the negative reviews & IMO, they only gave 1 star because they were of a different political persuasion which I find immature and has nothing to do with the good food &...
Read moreIn response to your allegations, I find it very petty. I have a fair and honest review of my experience and especially on how I feel about your place. I don’t care if you all dress like giant chickens and do the Macarena, if it makes you happy that’s awesome! I just personally don’t feel comfortable or safe eating at a place that pushes a false narrative so if I can’t trust your decision making that you’re proud of, I can’t trust you making my food and I stick to my gut feelings with it. I travel often and find myself eating around Sonora all the way south to Mexico City and your style of cooking is nonexistent anywhere there or in between and that’s the solid truth and sometimes it really stings. If you have patrons that favor your personal “sazon“ then I pity them for they don’t know what real authentic Mexican food is. Don’t worry about me coming back to your establishment, your cooking and decision making helped me make up my mind a long time ago.
Edit: The fact that you have to stoop so low as to respond in such an unprofessional and childish manner should be solid proof on what decisions you make. I have a great respect for personal property and above all our beautiful and great nation. I love it so much, I served proudly and enjoy the great people I met here and abroad. Anywhere I have gone I’ve never seen or experienced what I did as when I stopped at your establishment. I served my country, not a bone-spurred military deferred con man. I can continue digging in pretty deeper, but you did a good job of doing it all...
Read moreWent to lunch there today. 1st time visit. Small dining area without much ambiance. It's Sat at noon. Two couples there, left after we arrived. We were alone for our entire lunch. I don't write reviews much unless it's very good. Hate to complain but... 1st problem the guy at the walk up order counter wasn't overly friendly and not sure of himself. And the bill was way more than expected. Extra charge for a credit card charge..extra charge for a little cheese on my taco. I ordererd a relleno combo plate and the rice and beans were ok.. maybe not homemade? Salty and ordinary. The chili relleno was mingy meaning the chili thin and really soggy was not much bigger than my thumb. Sure it was premade. It was overpoweringly stuffed with gooey cheese and the thick breading was barely done. The chili was not the star of the relleno. The taco, gr beef was cooked in a rich taco seasoning like McCormick taco seasoning packet. The taco shell we ordered fried and crispy was more like a crispy tortilla chip not fresh?. Store bought type. Over all not worth $18.00 fot a chili relleno and 2 tacos and med RC cola. This is more like a fast food place. No chips and salsa on the table. That's extra. Been in Tucson over 45 years. Eaten at many good Mexican restaurents. This...
