EDIT: I have upped to 4 stars. Gave this place another couple of tries and it was pretty good both times. I guess they fixed whatever the problem was. Well done! I write this as a very sad man. Something has happened to Lisa's Chicken over the last few months. The food used to be really good. I have a large family and we'd get takeout from here for "Chicken Night". But a couple of months ago, something began to be different about the food.
The fried chicken, rolls, corn, and okra that used to be hot, crisp, and fresh...well, isn't. The chicken sat under a heat lamp too long. The corn was soggy from sitting in water too long. The rolls have become doughy. The mac and cheese has become mushy.
The biggest disappointment? The crisp and addictive okra (seriously, I could eat a whole large bag by myself) had the texture of fried baby food (bleech!).
I don't know if they've started making larger batches and just letting them sit out longer? Whatever it is, it's obvious that a lot less care is being given to the food than six months or a year ago.
My kids used to love the shrimp and would wolf it down. Tonight I caught them hiding it in napkins because they said it was gross and they didn't want to eat it. Sadly, I didn't blame them. And my chicken was pink (red in places) under the breading. Ugh, that means it's not cooked! Just thrown into the fryer for the breading to develop, then pulled out (I'm trying not to think about it, since I just ate about half of it before realizing).
If this happened just once, I could let it go and give another chance (and actually we did, several times).
And I don't have any complaints about the service (or the ice tea, which is sublime).
But this is, seriously, like the fifth "it must have been a fluke" visit in a row. So, long-time customer signing off here. I hope this is taken as constructive feedback to improve. I might still swing by and get a tea if I'm nearby. But I'm done with the food. It's too bad, I used to really enjoy...
Read moreTheir chicken is tasty, juicy, and quite flavorful. KFC has good flavor to,but usually it's been sitting there a while. and it's also very hard to get fresh cooked chicken at KFC. but Lisa's has no problem. They've recently changed their onion rings to a batter dipped onion rings, and I hope they never change these things are delicious and they're not beer battered thank goodness. I know the owner we converse quite often, the whole staff knows me, and they have tried several things I brought for them to taste. But I can recommend this place if you like chicken it's a pretty decent chicken joint and the service is pretty moderate they're definitely not slow. I recently had their mashed potatoes without any gravy they suck period the potatoes by themselves have no seasoning their instant mashed potatoes and they don't even add butter salt or pepper to the mix so you are forced to get gravy and they never give you a fork to eat them with. If they would add a little butter and salt and pepper the potatoes would be good by themselves there would be no gravy required. I hope they pay attention to this post and add a little butter salt and pepper to the mix. Just went through Lisa's Chicken drive-thru ordered a fresh cooked chicken breast and well done fries it was quite stringy. And the crust was falling off, not your normal thing you'd see at a fried chicken joint. And again I asked for well-done fries and got regular. I don't know if they're impatient or I'm not sure. I'm one who doesn't mind waiting but they think I do been there for that's why I think they rush it thank God I have an air fryer at home at least I can make the french fries fresh by Ari...
Read moreBeen going here for a long time, won't be anymore. Just asked for the combo #5 with no drink. Not only did they have the gall to always charge for the drink I never get (which honestly isn't a big deal). Unbelievable that they had the nerve to put a replace the roll, with a slice of bread. Yes, a roll, which normally someone will charge extra for, or give it for free in place of a dollar drink, was replaced with a slice of bread, I could have gotten from the pantry. I wasn't going to bring it back to the store, so I called them. Called them. They said they had a "sign" on the pull up window, if they did I didn't see it. Would make more sense to put it on the actual intercom when I order so I don't get surprised, but whatever, they made no effort to correct it when I called. I've worked at a fast food place before, you don't just put a small sign in the hopes that someone reads it, especially when your window has so many different signs, prices. Thanks for nothing, I'll go to a place that actually give me an extra roll in substitution for my drink, and not take 15...
