Natalie and I went out for some Mexican food at our favorite joint right down the street and decided we wanted a sweet. We’d seen a new bakery right down the street so after a brief (very brief) discussion off we went! Not sure how long the bakery has been there; been a while since I have been this far out highway 29. I wish I had taken photos inside but I didn’t. I was so enamored of the colorful cookies and pastries that I forgot all about my camera. They had a big case full of baked goodies across the entire back wall of the store. It all looked so good it was hard to choose. I had no idea what each item was because they were not marked. No names. No prices marked either. I finally just chose a chocolate eclair covered with colorful sprinkles and Natalie got a sparkly, sugary doughnut. There were no tongs or cut papers to pick up so we had to go up front and asked how to be served. She gave us a tray and a pair of tongs and we each chose our goodies and carried the tray back up front to the counter. I was surprised at how affordable they were, too. Good prices on very good sweets. We took our doughnuts back to the house and had a quick dessert picnic in the yard. It’s was a sweet ending to our evening eating out. I’m glad we found this place; I’m sure I’ll be back for more yummy chocolate...
Read moreI went for tamales and the bag the older lady handed me melted because of the hot tamales and made a mess. So i was told by the young kind cashier to leave it that she would take care of it. So i decided to look for bread instead. Then came the older lady who works there picking them up and asking me if i still wanted them! Ofcourse NOT. She also told me not to play with the bag shaking it which i was absolutely NOT doing. Anyway i agreed because i did not want to seem ungrateful and there were some that fell all out of the husk and she still said i had to pay for ALL of them. I told the cashier that it was not my fault that they fell and the older lady said it did not matter that I had to pay for them. First, she tried to make it seem that it was my fault when SHE handed me the bag i put the tamales in. Then she MADE me pay full price for tamales from the floor even the ones we could not salvage. This is NOT how you treat customers. I believe she is not well trained and is only out for money and not to provide quality for customers. When i came home my whole family was furious about how I was treated and were shocked about how I did not react how I should have and was too nice. A bad review is all I can do....I do not like confrontation but injustice...
Read moreCelia makes the best cheddar and jalapeno tamales this side of the rio grande river. She sells out by 10:30 AM and they are only available Friday, Saturday and Sunday. I probably shouldn't post that (tamale competition being brutal) but one selfless act a day is a great start for a new years resolution. I challenge you to do the same. Don't wait until January to start. Our world has fallen into darkness and cannot afford for you to wait. Thank God for CiC DJT! They still need our help.
