The food is good. I've been to the restaurant and bought Groupons for it before. However, I had a terrible experience with their service and will likely never eat there again.
I placed a takeout order that I planned to pay for with my most recently purchased Groupon. When I went to pick it up, they would not take my Groupon. It was expiring that day (so it was my last day to use it). I tried to explain this. The girl at the register brought over the manager, whom was rude and would not discuss the matter with me. He just kept telling me he wouldn't take the Groupon and didn't try to work out the issue, discuss it with me, or try to contact Groupon for support. I was very frustrated.
And to make matters even worse, they didn't attempt to help any of the other customers who arrived after me. They let one gentleman behind me berate and harass me. This gentleman had only been waiting for like 30 seconds, so he was just a rude person in general, but it would have been good customer service for someone to take care of his order (or whatever he had come in for) and/or to discourage him from harassing me (as I was also a paying customer).
I was feeling very flustered and attacked at this point so I just paid for my food and left. I wanted to call someone to complain, but wasn't sure who to call (if I called the restaurant again, I didn't want to have to talk to the same manager).
I did call Groupon when I got home. The customer service rep confirmed that the restaurant should have taken my Groupon (as it was the expiration day, it was the last day I could use it). Groupon did a great job with customer service and fixing the issue.
I have been telling everyone I know in the Athens area about this experience with this particular restaurant and will post reviews on other websites. I will not continue to support a restaurant that cares so little about their customers and makes them feel so...
Read moreUpdate May 2022: I made good on my promise and we came here for lunch on Mother's Day about 1pm. It was not busy at all, though there were people coming in and out for takeout orders. My review is-- why have you not eaten here yet!? The food is as good as it looks. It came out surprisingly quickly; we ordered 7 dishes and only 1 was a repeat. My only complaints are that the restaurant seemed a little bit unclean, like it just seemed kind of dingy, and the dolmas didn't have much flavor. I highly, HIGHLY recommend the kufta kabob, it is very flavorful, and the rice is delicious, hummus delicious, potatoes, delicious, all the other meats, delicious, salad, delicious, with big hunks of feta. If you like spanakopita but you are used to getting it from the grocery store, be aware that these are mostly spinach with a feta cheese flavor and they are not just a pile of creamy cheese with a bit of spinach in it like the ones from the store. The kids meals are 7.50 each, and they are definitely enough for two young kids to split. It an adult size portion of food, so it is worth the price. Honestly, even the entrees are enough for two adults to split if they both are not overeating or are not running a marathon or something. OP April 2022: Delicious. We had a meal catered by this restaurant and we will definitely be stopping in. The dressings and sauces were fresh, the meat was wonderful and smelled amazing while we were waiting to be served. Everything was great from the rice to hummus to the steak. One note, the kalamata olives had pits, so be aware. If you found this review helpful, please give it a...
Read moreWe tried the Athens location of Mediterranean Grill. It's a regional chain with additional locations in Decatur, ATL, and Marietta. We wanted to try a few things so we have a ton of leftovers. I got the homemade Spanakopita with crisp phyllo dough, spinach, feta, and ricotta. It came with a side of Greek Salad. Mimi had the Combination Feast with Shish Kabob, Kufta Kabob (Ground Sirlion), and Gyro slices with a Greek Salad and a soda. She also had a large order of additional Tzatziki. I had Lamb Shank with Basmati Rice and upgraded to the Jerusalem Salad which is Diced Tomatoes, Cucumbers, Parsley, and Tahini Dressing. I also ordered a side of potatoes. We had a generous basket of pita bread. Definitely putting them on our rotation. There is a handicap parking space with a ramp to the far right in front of their door. Another patron wss using the space when we got there but the flat portion of the parking lot made it easy for Mimi to use her walker to the end of this small 3 restaurant strip mall. We're hoping Door Dash delivers to her house. This restaurant has a point of sale menu ordering. A server will bring your order to your table. You assist with bussing your table with a tub for plates and cups above the trash can. We ate in the bavk which had partial bench tables and was quieter than the front. There is one...
