I am not sure how google messed this date up, I remember it so very well, lol. The Ga. Center was my home away from home for years, while I was on the air at WUGA. Then, my pecan tree came down alongside my house, during Irma, Monday, September 11, 2017. Ahem. I thought I had already posted a glowing review of the refuge provided me by the Ga. Center. So here goes, better late than never: I called them, panicked, because the storm was still in high gear, and it was about 6:30 p.m., so getting late to be looking for a room, especially with covered parking. The hail was huge! Shaken, in shock, and shaking, I called from my car, which the tree had barely missed. The tree took out the power for everyone on my street, and fell from right outside my bedroom window to all the way across the street. They made room for me, for a very reasonable rate, on a day to day basis, and kept me through game day! I checked out on Sunday, so spent 6 nights. The front desk crew, my maid ( I had the same sweet lady all week), kitchen and coffee kiosk folks, security and everyone in management went above and beyond. I didn't realize until Friday or Saturday, during a sweet chat with the Manager, that the staff had taken note of my distress, as I went back and forth to my home, every day to help a friend clear a way through the treetop for power to get to the house. I was especially worried about my cats, in the over 90 degree temperatures, so opened the house up late every night overnight, to cool it down for them, and shut it down, early every morning. It was no fun, and I probably did look a hot mess, after spending until late lunchtime every day working in the heat. I needed and much appreciated the calm atmosphere of the Ga. Center. through the work week. I spent my time dead- heading the flowers in the front garden, and anticipating the spectacle of game day. On game day, tailgating with the tailgaters was lovely and I had a terrific time in the company of my fellow Dawg fans. Oh! And, I got to pet UGA! Many thanks to the Ga. Center for helping me get through an incredibly tough week, which I will never...
Read moreNot for me. Too much walking just to get from the parking area to your room. Traffic is bad 24/7 and that's not counting dodging pedestrians and students. I can't imagine what game weekends are like. Give me Atlanta or Washington DC in rush hour traffic any day over this. Hotel is very hard to find. Street names are obscured and signage for the hotel is very hard to see until you are right up on it. Used GPS and still circled the hotel 3 times before I found the entrance. Then had to go around to the other side of the conference center to the closest parking deck. Disabled parking is limited to 24 hours. Definitely bring a rolling case if you have any type of mobility issue. Friendly employees, mostly students, but they don't go out of their way to help. Was told due to construction, I might have plexiglass over my window for my safety and security but this white opaque board barely let's any light in so don't expect to see any view from your window. Only positives it gets from me is it was the same location as my conference so I didn't have to travel between the training and my hotel. Due to almost "black-out" windows, there wasn't any noise or distraction from outside. And they'll combine your parking fees in the deck with your hotel bill so I didn't have to worry about keeping up with multiple receipts for reimbursement. Personally, unless a future training or conference was held at the hotel and I couldn't find another location to attend, I...
Read moreNot awful, not great. First, unless you know where this place is, it's tough to find. There's a sign that gets you to turn off Lumpkin, but after that the one sign that points you to the hotel can't be read at night. Maybe it's easier in the daylight. If you enter from the parking garage, there are no signs directing you to elevators or the front desk. This is strange for a convention center hotel. Staff weren't rude by any means, but also were not friendly. The first thing we saw after getting off the elevator on the third floor was a roach scurrying down the hall. I don't know the history of this place, but I'm assuming this perhaps used to be a dorm, or at least that's the feel I get. The rooms aren't great and definitely need an update, or some fresh paint at least. The bed is fairly comfortable, but the pillows are lumpy. Again, not great not awful. Feels like a hotel you would pay about $75 a night for. I'd stay here again for that price, but not more. Unfortunately, I paid more than that...
