Come On Out & Try The Best NY Style Pizza in ALABAMA! #NYStyle #Pizza
Austin LoveAustin Love
This is probably my top 3 places to eat in Athens. The pizza is delicious, authentic New York style (thin crust, fold it in half to eat). The dough and sauces were great, you can tell the toppings are FRESH! They also had little garlic bites, cinnamon rolls, and what I think were beignets that were all super good. The man who helped us was extremely nice, asked us to pick any pizza on the menu and they'd make it HOT AND FRESH, and they delivered. Incredible cheese pulls on every single slice I had. If you're confused, just start with a regular pepperoni or meatlover while you look over the menu. Prices were really really good, super affordable - two people for less than $25. You can also order non-pizza things. The best part is that the buffet doesn't just sit there all day getting old - basically everything is made on request. Took them less than 5 minutes to make each pizza we requested - we tried 3 and loved them all. There's a simple salad bar which was pretty good - nothing seemed old or stale, greens were crispy, etc. I can't believe some of these other reviews - I think they just don't know that it's NY style pizza - it's supposed to be thin! I think they made it perfectly. I was introduced to this place by a NYC native who said it's the only place in Alabama they've ever found quality NY style pizza, and I completely agree, it's my favorite local pizzeria.

We stopped by Mozza Pizza after looking for a pizza place that meets the New York style pizza. It’s in the heart of Athens on the square near Kreme delite and the courthouse. We were blown away by the prices. Great for a family of 6 like us. Originally we were going to order an XL because our boys eat a lot, but we ended up ordering by the slice which was such a good cost. One slice of pizza is bigger than your head lol. Our daughter did not want pizza so we got her their spaghetti. It had authentic flavored Italian marinara, and the bread it comes with was delicious. I haven’t had that type of bread anywhere else. I love that you can buy a 2 liter of soda to enjoy instead of paying $$$ for each individual person to have a fountain drink. We like saving money as a big family. The meatballs were the best meat balls I’ve ever had. I forgot to take a picture before we started eating lol, but the spaghetti comes with meatballs. I have a special needs son who does not do well in public settings so finding places we can go without feeling overwhelmed is slim, this place was perfect. The atmosphere is very casual and laxed. Perfect for children on the spectrum! We have decided that this will be our new favorite pizza spot! The service was phenomenal too. 10/10 recommend!!!!

I placed my order at 6pm on the app Slice because that is the app they use. Since it was a pickup, I had to pick a time. I had to choose 6:45pm because the time rolled to 6:01 and on this stupid app, it cannot be within 30 minutes so it kicked it to 6:45. I get there at 6:30. The music was so loud I had to scream at the servers about picking up my order. So, I will say the 2 servers, Taylor and Christine were very nice. Christine tells me it's not quite ready, but it will be in a few minutes. I waited till 7:20pm! The music was so loud because it was karaoke night. The case that displayed the pizza by the slice had a warning that it was hot, it wasn't hot and the pizzas looked like they had been there all day. I ordered a large pep with mushrooms, a 12" with everything and found out eventhough I had asked for thick crust, it's not available on any pizzas but it is an option on the stupid app. I also ordered garlic knots. Be aware, they are not knots. They are little butter soaked knubs. I also ordered some mozz sticks. The order total was over $72 and I had to add the tip in the app. I don't mind paying for good food, or tipping 15% when the service is good, but this pizza was horrible and the time it took from 6:01pm till 7:20 was ridiculous! The crust on the pepperoni was so hard my husband should have just sliced the box and ate it. The one with everything was so soggy because the veggies appeared to have been precooked and we're nothing but mush. Needless to say, we will not be back. It was a total disappointment! Don't waste your time unless you are just looking for something to eat and you don't really care...

Pizza is excellent. The place is old and not in great shape, but not a big deal if the food it good, and it is. No issue there. However, the owner/manager is unimpressive. I get Mozza coupons in the mail, which helps make the long drive from west Huntsville to Athens worthwhile. However, the owner/manager does not like these coupons. He argues that they are not valid or do not apply, when they clearly do, and then puts restrictions on their use. I understand trying to make a profit and seeing coupons come in the door is not very desirable, but if they get people to come try the pizza (and the pizza sells itself!), they are worthwhile in the long run. The most recent time I was there was the final straw. I had a 5 dollar off a $30 or more purchase. When I checked out, he looked at me with disappointment, then incorrectly argued that the coupon didn't apply. Then finally with a bit of an attitude, took the coupon and appeared to apply it. The total seemed slightly high, but close enough to not argue about. But upon review of the receipt, he only discounted the ticket 4 dollars (I know it's only a dollar, but that's not the point) and also charged a "noncash" fee of 4%. I'd have happily paid with cash if I had known of the 4% credit card fee. Bottom line is the pizza is great, but borderline unethical management will likely keep me away in the future. Maybe the Mozza on Jordan Lane will be worth the drive. Very...

Order was placed over 90 mins in advance for a pick-up. Had to wait another 30 mins for the order. I noticed the 82 health rating, and immediately questioned my choice to try this place. Ive been here for over 10 yrs, and the building and it's frontage have always looked unappealing. Sometimes, however, you can find hidden gems! THIS was not a hidden gem.

Mozza Pizza earned that 82 rating. Crusts were burnt-bottoms were blackened burnt. Someone was on their phone not paying attention to the baking time. There is no excuse for burning pizza. The crust wasn't NY style, unless hard and burnt is now the NY standard. Toppings were cold. You can tell the pizza was pre-made with a minimal sauce and cheese base, then the toppings were thrown on, heated for less than 5 mins, just long enough to burn the crust and lukewarm the toppings. How hard is it to use FRESH sliced mushrooms, or spinach? Must be excruciatingly difficult here because mushrooms were canned, spinach was thawed frozen. Roasted peppers were canned as well. Very little meat on meat lovers pizza. A few scant ham toppings on the hawaiian pizza. plenty of canned pineapple though! Idk what they thought those little bits of pizza dough flash fried hard and smothered in confectionery sugar were suppose to be. Rough chewy nuggets were not on the menu, but they have them! Now I know why I never tried them. Parking is bad, food is...
