Friendly staff make you feel like coming you're home...as the majority of staff have been employed at this Denny's(VIP'S before Denny's), and live around the immediate area. The restaurant in Newcastle is a corner stone of the community, you just don't see this level of involvement of a corporate/franchise as it is not the Denny's policy. In fact the company has no policy or position for anything outside the "null standard" of none, which is the business model of the day.. Compared to the strict quality, healthy food preparation and storage requirements, Professional business standards, and most importantly the required level of customer service which was mandatory for continued employment, back in the day. "The customer is always right", has a much different meaning today. Denny's parent company, The Southland Corp., has unfortunately fallen down and abandon the foundation which attributed largely to their Nationwide success. As a member of the Denny's family(employee), well traveled highwaywoman, I have been to several Denny's, not so much in recent years as the inconsistency in quality, and food borne illness, along with dirty unattended restrooms, rude employees just doesn't make sense, can't justify the expense, especially while traveling..and that's always been my goto, the ole stand by, safe, clean, home away from HOME... No more...
This message is intended for the edification of a nation whose lost it's sight for respect, the knowledge of what it is to serve, the gift of being given the opportunity to serve, and the pride and ownership of a job well done, are some of the rudimentary values our COUNTRY was founded on..... as the last of a dying breed, Newcastle Denny's is more than the food, more than a place to eat, it's a family a member of a class of professionals who have more to offer than a cup of coffee or a burger. The opportunities for those who are interested in earning some road scholar education, should see Barbara Olson, Becky Stout, and Carol Kromberger, these ladies put the "Grand" in "Grand Slam". I believe these ladies should be celebrated for their commitment to excellence in their profession and loyalty to brand, their stamina/resilience is nothing short of Amazing. Thank you for being a part of my life, and that of my family and community. May your legacy, the Ladies and Gents of a dying breed, the gold standard in customer service live on in the hearts of those whose bellies you've filled. After all, "The way to a man's heart is through...
Read moreWe were seated immediately. Service was prompt. We both ordered breakfast. Mine came with 2 eggs I wanted 1 over medium & 1 scrambled, but was told it had to be one or the other. I feel if the menu says "any style", I oughtta be able to get any style. I'd like to think a cook would be able to cook eggs singly, right? What is the big deal? My meal came with toast, which was buttered in the middle only. I hate that. I like my toast buttered from edge to edge. All the way to the corners. I know it can be done. I waited tables for almost 16 years. My friend's breakfast came with pancakes. The server did not bring any syrup until asked to. On our way out, we used the restroom. The toilet i used, when flushed, it keeps flushing repeatedly. For how long, I don't know. I tried and tried to make it stop, to no avail. I finally gave up, but told a staff member on my way out. He said, "Oh, it does that!". OMG ! Are you kidding me? That's a horrible waste of water! Shame on you, Denny's, for not getting a plumber out there to fix that. However, the food was good. My steak was cooked perfectly and had a really good flavor. The pancakes were very good, too. Once we...
Read moreMay 2025: Had another terrific meal at Denny's Newcastle, CA today. We go 2-3 times a month. Our favorite server saw us coming in and had our tea and coffee all set for us when we walked through the door. And the weekend staff (3 Handsome Men, as I think of them - Carmello, Rudy and Antonio) is in that same league of excellence when it comes to accuracy, speed, and friendliness. Wonderful location, on a clear day you get a view of Mt. Diablo! TRY IT OUT! Oh, did I mention they make the best pancakes in Northern California?
Dec. 2024: Denny's restaurant in Newcastle on top of the hill is our Go-to place when we need to talk or get some comforting or nutritious food. Just to sit in a booth is a rare pleasure. You can look out the wall of windows, and if it's not foggy, you can often see all the way to Mt. Diablo in San Francisco. Service is terrific. Servers are friendly, fast and accurate as are the cooks. Some of the servers, like Carol, have worked there for years, almost like being welcomed in by longtime friends. As seniors, we especially like the Senior Cheddar Scramble. Yummy. Plus we love the...
